The wife of Augustus the Strong, she had remained steadfastly Lutheran after her husband converted to Catholicism in order to become King of Poland. This earned her particular affection and respect among the people of Protestant Saxony.
Her death prompted widespread mourning. In Leipzig, a special memorial was arranged at the University Church, and Bach was commissioned to provide the music.
The result was ๐ณ๐ร, ๐ญ๐ฬ๐๐๐๐๐, ๐๐ร ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐บ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ โ the ๐๐๐๐ข๐๐๐๐๐ or Funeral Ode โ first performed on ๐๐ ๐๐๐ญ๐จ๐๐๐ซ ๐๐๐๐.
Bach responded to the occasion with music of exceptional richness and expressive depth: at once intimate, solemn and magnificent.
On ๐ & ๐ ๐๐๐ญ๐จ๐๐๐ซ the Canberra Bach Ensemble will perform this remarkable work at ๐๐ญ ๐๐ก๐ซ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐จ๐ฉ๐ก๐๐ซโ๐ฌ ๐๐๐ญ๐ก๐๐๐ซ๐๐ฅ, ๐๐๐ง๐ฎ๐ค๐.
