A Reading Life is back 📚

New series starts this Sunday! Hosts Bart Meehan and Rebecca Vassarotti return to the ArtSound Radio Theatre timeslot — 4pm Sundays, repeated 10pm Mondays.

Each episode, they chat with some of Canberra’s finest writers about their reading lives: what they love, what they can’t stand, and what sparks their creativity ✍️

This week’s guest: award-winning author, playwright, poet and musician Nigel Featherstone (Nigel Featherstone ) 🎭

Series runs through to mid-December, when Series 6 of ART kicks off.

Andrea Keller’s New Collaborations (rpt)

Melbourne based pianist & composer Andrea Keller celebrated new collaborations as part of her HC Coombs Fellowship at ANU Canberra in 2022.
Andrea is an active member of Australia’s contemporary creative jazz community through multiple roles as performer, composer, arranger, recording artist, researcher, teacher, mentor, and curator. Dedicated to the performance, creation, and nurturing of contemporary jazz and improvised music, her projects celebrate the wealth and diversity of Australian musicians.

This performance, which took place at the ANU Drill Hall Gallery, features compositions by Keller for trio with saxophonist John Mackey and trumpeter Miroslav Bukovsky. The trio’s music will be interspersed with solo piano sets by three (then) local emerging creative pianists in Ronan Apcar, Caleb Campbell, and Elliot Kozary.

On Artsound FM’s Concert Hall program this Sunday 30 August at 8pm (and repeated next Wednesday 2 September at 2pm) you can hear the concert:

The False Prophet, The Wicked Servant and Divine Comfort – Block Sounds. Hear how Johann Ahle and his 17th century contemporaries infused the drama and passion of decadent early Italian opera into the German Protestant church cantata.

The following Sunday 6 September (and repeated Wednesday 9 September at 2pm), you can hear:

Tomorrow Saturday 29 August, it's a two-for-one with Paul Conn from midday....

From 12 noon, the ARTSOUND RECORDED MUSIC SOCIETY brings you the strangest but maybe most interesting album Stevie Wonder ever released. Journey Through The Secret Life of Plants perplexed fans and critics when it was released in 1979, and you’ll hear why. Forget the hits, this was Stevie Wonder going somewhere very different.

Then, from 1 pm, LIVE ARCHIVE joins the late great bass player Jackie Orszaczky in a Sydney pub show during 2001. Best known for his work with the jazz fusion group Syrius, experimental group Bakery and his excellent solo album Beramiada, it was his love for Funk and Rhythm & Blues that shines in this excellent relaxed show.

The ArtSound Recorded Music Society is repeated next Wednesday at 4 pm.
Live Archive is repeated next Thursday night from 10 pm.
