The National Zoo & Aquarium is privately owned, and is Australia's only combined Zoo and Aquarium - that's 2 attractions in one! We are situated on around 18 hectares of land just five minutes from the centre of Canberra. With a wide variety of

both native and exotic animals, as well as the largest inland saltwater tank in Australia, there is something for everyone. Wander in and have a casual stroll around the park, or make a day of it with family, friends and make use of our picnic areas and complimentary BBQ facilities. We are best known for our amazing "up close and personal" animal encounters, which provide visitors with an opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the worlds most amazing creatures!

🦒🌍We’re celebrating World Giraffe Day this weekend 🌍🦒

Hoofstock Team Leader Phoebe chats to us about how we are supporting giraffes and showcasing our species ambassadors! 🥇

All weekend long we are running a coloring in competition where one lucky winner will get the chance to meet Mzungu and Shaba in a Giraffe Encounter 🥬

On Sunday 21/06 we will have a Special Giraffe Keeper Talk @ 1:45pm. We will also have $10 giraffe feeds @ 2:00pm (first in, best dressed, no booking required until giraffe food lasts) where all funds will be donated to the Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GiraffeConservationFoundation )🦒

Meet Ted 🐍

Ted is a Rough-Scaled Python, one of Australia’s most rare and elusive snakes 🔎

This Western Australian python was first mentioned in the 1970s and is extremely rare to see in the wild due its remote location 🌏

The python’s most notable feature is the large scales adorning the body that can feel like a tyre 🛞

You can see Ted and his scaley mates on the bottom level of our Aquarium 🐟

World Giraffe Day is on this weekend and to celebrate the National Zoo and Aquarium will be extending a ‘looong’ invitation to join us for a special Giraffe Keeper Talk and Giraffe Feed on Sunday 21/06 to raise funds for the Giraffe Conservation Fund. 🌍

All weekend long, young and budding zookeepers can participate in the colouring in competition and go in the running to meet a giraffe in real life! 🎨

There’ll be lots of enrichment for the giraffes over the weekend aswell! 🌱

All the activities are free with admission and memberships. 🎟️

There’s so much fun to be had at the National Zoo and Aquarium, Canberra’s ‘Centre of Adventure’. 🦒🛝🦖🎉

What big teeth you have 👀

Unlike other Leopards, the Sri Lankan Leopard has no other similar sized competitors in its region. 🌳

Because of this, they have no need to store their prey in trees or otherwise to retain their meal and protect their kills from kleptoparasitism 🍖

Giraffes play a pivotal role in inter-species herds 🦓🦒

Due to their incredible height and excellent eyesight, giraffes act as a ‘watchdog’ for all sorts of species in Africa 🌍

Many herd animals will utilize giraffes as a beacon of safety, and often follow their lead to move from areas where there is a risk of predation 🦁
