ππ Kicking off around the city soon! Announcing the launch of Gill Frill Vaudeville, a new local run busking and live performance initiative activating Garema Place, City Walk, and the wider Civic precinct with live music, variety acts, circus, theatre, and stellar performance art. Gill, the fish in the frill (and a βget off the stage!β hook) is planning whimsical pop-up shows around the city with the help of Alias Performance - a project he hopes will create a vibrant, fun, accessible, and welcoming public performances. Pitch spaces and roving shows are open to artists who are keen to bring joy directly into the heart of the community.
Gill Frill Vaudeville is designed to be both a professional showcase opportunity and a low-pressure environment for emerging artists to gain confidence and experience performing before live audiences. We are currently inviting expressions of interest from solo performers, bands, buskers, circus artists, dancers, theatre makers, comedy acts, community groups, creative troupes, lovers and weirdos with something spectacular to share. We also hope to work with artists to schedule acts for the best available times for practice or a pro show, and match where we can with busy times for local businesses with similar vibes to help boost crowds and winners all round.
Pitch set ups and support are available including: portable PA with duel wireless microphones, lighting option (portable telescopic night spotlight, mini PAR, laser, string light etc), rope/LED barriers, assorted decorations, Busk.Co QR code payment option, Square reader payment option, camp cart and Garema place storage and large green room. There is also black board signage and other options provided to help audiences easily discover who performers are, where to follow them, attend any of their local upcoming performances, how to book for gigs, and otherwise support their creative work - make waves babes.
As a new (ad)venture from Alias Productions, with support of Lex Maddox Arts and The Rainbow and Arrow Collective, we can offer production assistance, act development, show support and chaperones with WWVP as needed to help make shows a smash. Artists are also welcome to skill share, network and socialise at the Blank Cultural Platform where we operate, as well as and You Are Here spaces during artist events. All are warmly encouraged to visit Garema Place and Civic to enjoy the performances, and help support Canberraβs growing live arts culture. We are hoping to have pop-up benches and other additions to these shows and space to make it more accessible ahead - stay tuned for more.
