🐟🌟 Kicking off around the city soon! Announcing the launch of Gill Frill Vaudeville, a new local run busking and live performance initiative activating Garema Place, City Walk, and the wider Civic precinct with live music, variety acts, circus, theatre, and stellar performance art. Gill, the fish in the frill (and a β€˜get off the stage!’ hook) is planning whimsical pop-up shows around the city with the help of Alias Performance - a project he hopes will create a vibrant, fun, accessible, and welcoming public performances. Pitch spaces and roving shows are open to artists who are keen to bring joy directly into the heart of the community.

Gill Frill Vaudeville is designed to be both a professional showcase opportunity and a low-pressure environment for emerging artists to gain confidence and experience performing before live audiences. We are currently inviting expressions of interest from solo performers, bands, buskers, circus artists, dancers, theatre makers, comedy acts, community groups, creative troupes, lovers and weirdos with something spectacular to share. We also hope to work with artists to schedule acts for the best available times for practice or a pro show, and match where we can with busy times for local businesses with similar vibes to help boost crowds and winners all round.

Pitch set ups and support are available including: portable PA with duel wireless microphones, lighting option (portable telescopic night spotlight, mini PAR, laser, string light etc), rope/LED barriers, assorted decorations, Busk.Co QR code payment option, Square reader payment option, camp cart and Garema place storage and large green room. There is also black board signage and other options provided to help audiences easily discover who performers are, where to follow them, attend any of their local upcoming performances, how to book for gigs, and otherwise support their creative work - make waves babes.

As a new (ad)venture from Alias Productions, with support of Lex Maddox Arts and The Rainbow and Arrow Collective, we can offer production assistance, act development, show support and chaperones with WWVP as needed to help make shows a smash. Artists are also welcome to skill share, network and socialise at the Blank Cultural Platform where we operate, as well as and You Are Here spaces during artist events. All are warmly encouraged to visit Garema Place and Civic to enjoy the performances, and help support Canberra’s growing live arts culture. We are hoping to have pop-up benches and other additions to these shows and space to make it more accessible ahead - stay tuned for more.

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain....

A stellar shot of Guy for sure. But you can almost see who's behind the eyes too. Almost. This rare photo gets to live by itself here.

I'm doing research for the next Alias Cabaret, theme is πŸ’š Oz. That means the Land of Oz, or Down Under. I am open to artistic interpretation. I was heavily inspired by Ray Bolgers' performance as the Scarecrow growing up, both for his kindness & physicality, & how much he struggles with seemingly Not Having A Brain. I was even called that a lot, not understanding why I seemed so brainless when I often excelled at school & was great at figuring things out really - an ADHD diagnosis made that clearer as an adult. Naturally I got pretty good at hiding it. So while my love of the Scarecrow is eternal, I'm going for the Wizard. He's great at fooling people to seem in control & genuinely wonderful in the true sense of the word. But he doesn't want to hurt anyone. He's just doing his best to keep up the illusion until he figures out a way home. What an inspiration.

But don't worry, I'm folding in some ridiculous moments & wild reveals. I am Oz, the great & powerful.

Catch you at the show, πŸ’š Alias Cabaret - June 26 at our home at .alternative .

🌟What a privilege to MC the 20th Anniversary Gala Dinner for ! These images are all so beautiful, but have to lead with the one of me laughing over tea in full regalia. I get to be proudly glamorous & gorgeously happy like this because of the work of organisations like AGA & the communities they build & care for. Thank you from the bottom of my ridiculous heart to all who have been part of it over the years. & all who keep it going now πŸ’•πŸŒˆπŸ₯Ή.

Also loving this pic with these two deadly icons & drag family, my drag mumma , & stunning artist 🀩

πŸ“Έ The ever awesome at the . This event did happen back in Nov 25, but only just found pics now & needed to share!

🌈 It's IDAHOBIT! It was May 17 1990 that homos*xuality was removed from the WHO Classification of Diseases. It was only in 1997 that it was decriminalised fully in Australia. And almost 3 decades later, so many q***r & inters*x folks still face so much discrimination & challenges to live authenticly, which is why showing your support is so vital.

From IDAHOBIT.org:
"- 68% of LGBTQIA+ employees are not out to everyone at work

- 2 in 3 LGBTQIA+ youth experience abuse due to their identity

- 35% of LGBTQIA+ Australians have experienced verbal abuse in the past 12 months

While experiences of discrimination most commonly occur in public and at work, there are also many instances where inequality and discrimination are still protected by government. In Australia:

LGBTQIA+ people can be discriminated against by religious organisations, including LGBTQIA+ teachers and students being expelled from religious schools.
Many inters*x people experience medical procedures performed on their bodies that modify their s*x characteristics without their consent.
LGBTQIA+ people are not adequately included in the census and other government research. This results in less data
Trans and gender diverse people in most states experience harsh and unnecessary barriers to updating their birth certificates, and therefore other legal documents.
These are just some of the issues LGBTQIA+ people face in Australia today. An up-to-date list can be found via Equality Australia."

I'm honoured today to be performing a drag storytime & entertaining families . Just reading a children's story like this is met with violence & protest in some places. I'm a proud bi woman, mum, mate, lover, community supporter, business owner, carnie, clown & drag artist. We are all rich humans with so much to share. Being out & sharing your pride is revolutionary folks. Keep supporting your community, & learn more at IDAHOBIT.org.
