Canberra Glassworks brings together the work of Iltja Ntjarra artists from Mparntwe (Alice Springs) and Naarm (Melbourne)-based artist Jordan Benson in an exhibition shaped by three points in time: the watercolour practice of Albert Namatjira (1902-1959), the collaborative stained glass window by Wenten Rubuntja and Cedar Prest created at the Araluen Arts Centre in Mparntwe in 1988, and the present moment of collaboration between these artists.

Be part of Klaus Moje's legacy 🟠🔵

Klaus Moje (1936–2016) called glass the most seductive of mediums. In his hands, it became something close to poetry.

Moje is one of the most significant figures in contemporary glass. He earned major international recognition including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Glass Art Society (USA) and the Australia Council Emeritus Award. His work is held in over 60 public collections worldwide.

Trained in Germany, Moje’s pioneering kiln-forming techniques transformed the art of glass through his passion for colour, geometry and flawless craftsmanship. In 1982 he established the Glass Workshop at the Canberra School of Art in Australia. His generous teaching shaped a generation of artists and forged vital connections within the studio glass movement, including at Bullseye Glass in Portland and the Pilchuck Glass School in Washington state.

He described his philosophy as “working into the hopeful”, always seeking the next step, working with quiet integrity. Each piece he made carried that searching spirit. To own a work by Klaus Moje is to hold something of that journey.

Help us to acquire two Klaus Moje artworks to anchor the foundation of our new development.

wants you to take a peek 'Through The Window' 🐦‍⬛

'For this forthcoming re-meeting, new works by the Iltja Ntjarra artists meet Benson's contemporary designs.'

'Curator Marisa Maher explains that Iltja Ntjarra (Many Hands) Art Centre "paint strong dreaming sites such as Glen Helen and Rutjimpa/Mount Sonder. They are sharing their knowledge, story and culture."

'This re-meeting is less a direct collaboration and more a bringing together of different perspectives. Benson notes, "My cultural themes and their cultural themes are very different", with his works reflecting "urban life and culture."
