Steve Roper
Watson Inner Space Project

Steve Roper creates an inner world of rich colours and intense linework in paintings, drawings and ceramics.

The exhibition presents abstract spaces and shifting moods across paper, canvas and clay. Sketches act as points of departure, evolving through colour and subconscious mark-making, while clay functions as sculpting and painting medium, as well as drawing substrate.

Exhibition Opening: 6 February 6-8pm
On View: 6 February - 1 March
Gallery Hours: Fri-Sun 11-4pm

Wow this is the most powerful and moving art exhibition I have seen for a while.
Euan McLeod started this series on the Tasman Glacier. He captured the feeling of ice snow rocks and mountains incredibly- the paintings look so damn cold and the mountains so threatening. Climbers, alone and in groups wind around them, and over the scenes hangs a massive threat

Normally when I see a show I will like maybe a third to half of the works but in this show I loved everything. (Except the tightrope painting. )

The work so magnificently brings together techniques and images. The colours and the tonality of the paintings are so strong.

This is something of a master class in what paint can do

In Flux Euan Macleod presents a series of en plein air paintings made on Haupapa Tasman Glacier in New Zealand’s South Island, alongside a suite of studio works whose grand scale emulates their site of inspiration.

Over the last few years I’ve had some very good meals at High Road in Dickson. However today I went with a friend and our experience was terrible.
First up we ordered coffee. My friend’s arrived first. He gave it some time to cool down, then a staff member came over and said ‘Sorry wrong coffee’,
A bit later the right one came. Mine still hadn’t but eventually it did.
We each ordered the same thing for lunch. We each said the name of the dish separately. So sometime later 2 dishes were placed on our table. Unfortunately they bore no resemblance to what we ordered. When we recalled the wait person they tried putting it back on us at first. We pointed out that the words didn’t sound remotely similar.
Begrudgingly they took it back and 20 minutes later ( or so) our meal arrived, this was a vegetarian dish priced in the mid $20. My friend had had it previously and it looked an interesting and tasty dish.
The dish we got was served on a bed of resentment, a miserable offering of a supermarket dip, some grated carrot, half a dozen leaves and toast ( there might have been one more, I’m trying to forget the whole experience). In short the sort of thing you might make from the remains in your fridge). 2x$25 meals consisting of much less than $10 ingredients. And utilising no skill.
In previous years I have dragged numerous friends there because of the high quality vegetarian dishes, so this was particularly disappointing.
Funnily enough the person on checkout didn’t ask us how our meal was.
