Dakota Feirer is a Bundjalung and Gumbaynggirr storyteller with his work published in Kill Your Darlings, Overland literary journal, Australian Poetry and more. His newly released, Arsenic Flower (2025), is a collection of poems and prose that explore Country, culture, resurgence and manhood. Dakota believes in healing Country and our communities through art and storytelling.

uwuwuU is the chaotic-good B2B project of best friends Wanja and Lucky; a love letter to all things beautiful, broken, and blissfully off-kilter. uwuwu is hyper-emotional club music, distortion, and pure stim. Born out of a shared sense of autistic joy and a deep friendship, uwuwu is woof uwuwuU is meow:
each set an (un)tethered (un)becoming, through sound that makes space for silliness, catharsis, and freak euphoria.

📣 announcing the treasure that is as our live artist for the evening ‼️💖🤯

Emma Rani Hodges lives on the unceded lands of the Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples. They are ฉันเป็นลูกของ ไทย ออสเตรเลียน, which in English translates to ‘I am the child of Thailand and Australia’. Emma’s art practice focuses on intergenerational trauma, community building, migration and multiethnic identity.
They use their feelings of ‘otherness’ to create new self-knowledge, while acknowledging that the existence of the ‘other’ depends on specific political conditions that influence relationships between marginalised bodies and society.

Emma will be making in the space throughout the event, such a privilege to witness their process live and up close. Get your tickets before they are gone people 🏃🏃😮‍💨😮‍💨

Zhi is an experimental multidisciplinary artist working across poetry, exhibition and performance. His book of poetry, blur by the, was published by Subbed In in 2019 and was recognised through the Anne Elder, Small Press Book of the Year and Mary Gilmore Awards. They live and work on unceded Ngunnawal and Ngambri country.

On the line up for this Wednesday night, Yleia Mariano! ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Yleia (they/them/siya) is a Filipino poet, raised on Dharawal country and currently based on Ngunnawal country. Making their debut on the slam poetry stage in June 2022 at the Canberra Slam, they become the Inaugural Canberra Slam Champion in November. Yleia represented the ACT and was one of the top five poets at the 2023 Australian Poetry Slam Finals. They have performed at Red Room Poetry events including the ACT Poetry Month Showcase, and broadcast internationally at the BBC’s Contains Strong Language Festival 2024 and for Aymo Live’s 2025 event ‘Beyond Borders: Roots & Routes’. A Canberra Slam co-host and hype-person, Yleia can either be found writing their thesis or about home (again)

Canberra slam presents the Fierceland after party! 🎉💃

A night of celebration for the new book from Omar Musa and for BIPOC stories.

This isn’t our usual slam with an open mic and judges, this night is for BIPOC and our allies ❤️‍🔥

A handful of canberra slam poets have been asked to share on the mic throughout the night and then to top things off we’ll have a feature set from ‼️

There’s a few more suprise announcements we have in-store to announce 🤫 But for now,

LESS THAN A WEEK TO GO! 🌻 Come see the inimitable 🤩

Jacqui Malins is a multi-disciplinary artist whose practice incorporates poetry and spoken word, performance, video, sculpture and instillation, drawing and photography. She is fascinated by the dynamics and relationships of social and natural environments, and the patterns and forces shaping them over time. 🍃
Jacqui writes and performs poetry and spoken word, has featured at events and festivals including the National Poetry Month Gala 2022, Poetry on the Move, Woodford Festival, National Folk Festival and been a winner or finalist for several awards. She has been published in journals and anthologies and her debut poetry collection was published by Recent Work Press in 2021. 📚

Jacqui's most recent publication is GERT: a non-fiction narrative collection of poetry and images which tells two inseparable stories: one of a place, and the other of a woman who lives there. (In Jacqui's words) 👩‍🎨

This is a show you don’t want to miss - we won’t spoil it for you, but it will be a one off experience, only for the people who are in the room.

Es Foong is a poet and spoken word performer grateful to live on unceded Wurundjeri land. They write about estrangement and belonging, hunger and delight. On-stage, they are the poetic analogue of heavy-metal karaoke. Off-stage, they eat identity labels for breakfast. Their poetry collection “Clot and Marrow” is available from Recent Work Press. They want you to know that you are a wild, precious and unique expression of possibility and you are cherished.
