Fiona Pfennigwerth Artist What does the natural beauty of Australia have to do with Christian hope?

I am an artist based in Newcastle, Australia, seeking to connect the two, through my naturalistic watercolour paintings, designed to be reproduced alongside Biblical text.

Gloucester Gallery will be showing my work, alongside two friends, Jan Clarke and Bronwyn Greive. The exhibition, called Natural Friends, will commence on May 22nd and run through June 15. I'll be at the gallery on Friday, June 13, with my art supplies to chat about painting in watercolour as well as my love of the natural world, of reading Scripture and connecting them through art. Christmas is coming up fast! There's a new collection of cards available on the website. 8 new designs, some are new paintings, some are older works reimagined and one is a photograph taken by Fiona's son Tim. Now is a great time to order books too, if you' you wish to give these as gift Christmas gifts. So many ways to celebrate the joy of our Lord coming.
Merry Christmas.

Psalms illuminated discounted to $50!

As I open boxes of Psalms as they arrived from the printer, I am finding some whose covers have one or two tiny (1-2mm) pockmarks, where fragments of packaging are embedded in them. I sponge off the cardboard shards, but the faint dints remain.

Accordingly, I am reducing the price of all Psalms illuminated, and your copy may have a slight dint somewhere on the cover.

And I still have plenty in stock of my other books, The Scrolls illuminated, and The Gospel according to John illuminated.

Just in time for Christmas!

Eternity news have done a lovely write up of Fiona's work:

Fiona Pfennigwerth’s pilgrimage to joining the long procession of illuminators (or limners) of Scripture began in the late ’70s, when she reluctantly joined her husband Ross at the annual conference of the Australian Fellowship of Evangelical Students (AFES). The ostensible drawcard was teaching...

A heartfelt apology:
An Errata
I was appalled recently to find errors in the Biblical text of The Book of Psalms illuminated.

It would have been insignificant if they were in my own words, but to find them in the text of the Scriptures was grievous, even though, in the Lord’s grace, none conflict with its sense.

Having checked the whole against the 2016 ESV, I drafted an Errata, and sent it with a covering apology to Crossway, who had kindly given me copyright permission to use their translation. Extending their generosity, they have now agreed to an Errata, listing significant corrections, to be included as a bookmark in all unsold copies, and available free from the Store page on my website.

As I am now doing, with my apologies to all.

Even with painstaking care, errors intrude. ‘Declare me innocent from hidden faults’, Psalm 19 prays. The book is not perfect, as I already know from its illustrations and discussion. (Although mostly I place the Kimberley in WA, on p180, I teleport it to NT, having begun my camping road trip from Darwin.)

Although this is an unreserved Mea culpa, I don’t want to be guilty of the presumptuous sin (19 again) of histrionics (my initial response was to withdraw the book). Think of the ‘Naughty Bible’ published in 1631, which omitted ‘not’ from the 7th commandment in Exodus 20…

Bec Pfennigwerth here! I often post here on Fiona's behalf, but today I'm explicitly taking over to tell a story about the on World Wetlands Day! One of the (many) privileges of having Fiona as a mother in law is a plentiful supply of gorgeous artworks to hang on our walls. The one pictured here is my favourite. Back when Tim and I were dating, we went with Fiona to the Hunter Wetlands. Specifically to find and photograph this Azure Kingfisher, so that she could include it in her upcoming work. Fiona warned us that we probably wouldn't see it, as it wasn't a very common bird. As soon as we arrived we jumped in the canoe, Tim and I powering and steering, Fiona with camera in hand, and honestly, we spotted the bird almost immediately! A frantic few minutes of chasing and snapping pics ensured! We were using film, so there was no way to know whether we caught the bird in frame, let alone in focus! We soon lost sight of the bird, and just meandered down the creek enjoying the wetlands. If you own Fiona's The Scrolls Illuminated, you will see this beautiful bird all through the book of Esther!
We're so blessed to have this lovely wilderness right on our doorstep in Newcastle. If you're looking for a Covid safe venue for your next gathering, I can't recommend it enough. Lovely walks, a cafe, activities for kids and canoes! ♥️
