With One Voice Canberra Choir

With One Voice Canberra Choir An inclusive and friendly community choir in Gungahlin. No auditions, no experience needed, everyone welcome!

With One Voice Gungahlin is a relaxed and supportive choir where everyone is welcome. We are a small but growing group, excited to be the first and only choir in the Gungahlin region and are looking forward to welcoming more local singers into our choir community. Our current membership is a mixture of complete beginners and more experienced singers and we welcome new members with every level of s

inging experience – including none at all! There are no auditions and you’re welcome to come and join us for a session any time and see if you think this is the choir for you! The choir has performed at the local Celebrate Gungahlin Festival, and aims to have 2-3 performance opportunities throughout the year – participation in these performances is totally optional. Our Repertoire

Our repertoire is diverse, including folk classics, a little bit of rock and roll, and some classic musical numbers. Some of our favorites you might be familiar with include Let It Be by the Beatles, Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah and the Elvis Presly classic can’t help falling in love. You can also check out our WOV Gungahlin Spotify Playlist which has a full list of our current songs. All our songs are carefully chosen to be accessible and easy to master for beginners – with some great harmony options for those who are more experienced singers or who want to challenge themselves. We are also always open to new song suggestions from members so if you’ve got a favourite you’ve always wanted to sing, please let us know! About Our Conductor

With One Voice Gungahlin is conducted by Rodney Clancy, whose expertise as a musical director and conductor has seen him work with professional musicians at the Sydney Opera House, deliver guest lectures at Australian National University, and adjudicate at the Australian International Music Festival for eight consecutive years. Rodney has experience in choral singing at almost every level – from non-auditioned community choirs like With One Voice to advanced groups performing all over the world. Rodney is also a Gungahlin local and has lived in the region for close to 20 years, and he is excited to be heading up With One Voice and creating opportunities for singing and connection in his home region. What to Expect at Rehearsal

Rodney is skilled in teaching beginner singers how to nurture and develop their voices and build their technical skill in singing while having a great time along the way. Rehearsals begin with warm up and breathing exercises to familiarize singers with good posture and technique before moving into singing songs from our repertoire. Sheet music is provided for most songs for those who are comfortable with it – but for those who may be a little intimidated by the thought, you can join is singing from lyric sheets too. Rehearsals are also supported by skilled accompanist Sam Andrews on piano, who helps us bring our choral sound to the next level! About the Venue

We meet on the multipurpose room on the ground floor of Common Ground Gungahlin each Tuesday evening from 7pm-8:30pm – a space which perfectly reflects the welcoming nature of the choir. Common Ground Canberra provides long term, high quality housing options for people on low incomes; and a solution for people who experience chronic homelessness. Common Ground strives to create a strong, vibrant community through a commitment to social inclusion that is provided in a safe and supportive, diverse, harmonious and inclusive community and With One Voice Gungahlin is proud to be part of this mix. How to get involved

You are welcome to come and join us for a trial rehearsal any time to get a feel for the choir before joining. Common Ground is a secure residential building so please touch base with us first so we can let you know how to access the rehearsal space, and so we can keep you updated on any unforeseen COVID related breaks in our rehearsal pattern. You can contact Michele from the choir committee on [email protected] or 0403 929 739 to let us know you’d like to come, or if you have any questions at all! We also run a come and try session in the first week of every school term which is especially tailored to new members – keep an eye on our page for the next one.
