I love that I can just fix my own glasses in a half hour and not have to budget for a new pair 🖤😎🤑

Hi, I've been a bit lazy lately. By that I mean: learning how to lazer-ise leather 😉

This Australian handmade ink made by Sown Earth is being applied to a Celtic knot from George Bain's book on Celtic art.

Laser cutting leather has a lot of potential to save us time in a traditional craft. I'm loving being able to experiment with this technology while keeping true to eco-friendly materials.

Mending a vintage kimono.

Our relationship with the material world was different before and it will change again; we can design this change ourselves by being mindful about materials. The items in your life support you like friends. They have a life of their own and hold our stories.

This silk kimono was gifted to me long ago. It was being sold second hand at the Nara folk festival in Canberra. We had a Japanese student staying with us at the time teaching us about their culture. It has become my festival gown. I wear it for special occasions like a friend's engagement and at the Solstice fire.

The sleeves are now ripping (due to festival dancing) and must be mended or altered to continue. I have chosen mending as a learning experience to figure out the sleeve details in the lining. Silk itself is robust, breathable and warm and I look forward to wearing it again soon.

In defence of mending things…
A rat munched the decorative blue stitching on this pin cushion. I was so sad that a rainbow was required to fix it. The pin cushion is thus much improved.

When something breaks or wears thin it is an opportunity to reflect. If you decide to fix it, to invest your time and energy into it, how? Is a patch job all that's needed to get you through the season, has the item supported you for many years? Perhaps there is room for improvement.
We choose things, they live with us and hold our stories. If you ever find your life blurring around in your head ( Like I do) then picking up and item, reflecting on its use past and future then restoring it helps to mend our connection to the real life.
