History of Koori Art Designs

I am a proud Dja Dja Wurrung and Bangerang woman and have an amazing family who I cannot thank enough with words for being supportive of me when I come up with a crazy idea. Back in 2015 I picked up a paintbrush and as the saying goes β€œthe rest is history”. Thanks to many people who have shared the journey along the way and have given me strength, advice and encourage

ment. I am still in the early stages of my career as an artist, but for those who already may have purchased some of my work I am very grateful for that and say thanks to you also. You can find me floating around the markets at times and may pop-up at random events from time-to-time. I paint mainly with acrylic but have also used some Ochre. I have recently started using traditional techniques in creating woven items. My dream is to also assist other fledgling artists and give us all a culturally safe place to have our art. So, stay tuned and I look forward to sharing my journey with you.

Wawa everyone,
Another design of rainbow earrings done.
I'm currently at the QEO in Bendigo for the Djaara's Marngrook game.
Come down and say hi, check out some of the other stallholders, and see how marngrook was played!

Wawa (hello) everyone,
After a few exhibitions where I was completing some larger pieces, I have taken some time to stock up on the little things. I had some fun doing the rainbow of colours in the round earrings. I have a few extra colours that sit outside of the rainbow also, especially my favourite colour - black! Keep an eye out for some other styles being updated. I have a little commission of some neck pieces before I get to the other styles, but it shouldn't take long.

I always love weaving and for me it is a mindfulness activity. I don't practice meditation or other calming activities, but we all do things differently. When I'm in the zone I can create so much in a short amount of time. Sometimes it is more the hands and wrists that make me stop, or eventually I run out of raffia!

Anyway, I'm off to do some more creating!!

Wawa (hello) everyone,
This is a beautiful piece that I have been working on for a little while. I am so proud of how it has come together.

I present to you Djaara Ngurar Balak (Djarra Ancestors).

Djaara Ngurar Balak (Djarra Ancestors) will be on display at the St John of God NAIDOC Exhibition, Bendigo.

For once the vision that I had for the piece has come to life in this work. It is not very often that the vision works out as originally intended.

Thank you for all the support you provide in my art journey.

Wawa (hello) everyone,

Welcome to all the new followers who have joined the Koori Art Designs family. I am beyond grateful for you joining the journey in my art progress.

NAIDOC week is just around the corner, and I have finished a woven wall hanging with natural and coloured raffia with a few emu feathers to be exhibited in the Knuldoorong Art Exhibition coming up for NAIDOC week. The Knuldoorong Art Exhibition 2025 will be held at Dudley House, View St, Bendigo, on Dja Dja Wurrung Country. With the opening night on Thursday 3rd July at 5pm, the exhibition will continue until Sunday July 13 from 11.00am - 4.00pm. Get along and check out some of the artists at the exhibition.

I am also working on another piece that I am hoping to exhibit at the St John of God Bendigo Hospital NAIDOC Art Exhibition, Lily Street, Bendigo. I will keep you posted with updates.

I hope to see you around during some of the NAIDOC activities.

Wawa (hello) everyone,
I hope you are all keeping warm. I would prefer to go into hibernation at this time of the year, but alas, I'm not an animal who has the luxury of doing so. Instead, I have been working on a little project. I love weaving, and the idea I have is slowly coming together. I have a few other elements to add before it is compete. I will share the finished piece with you when I can. I am hoping to put it into an exhibition for NAIDOC Week.
Stay warm, and stay safe.

Wawa (hello) and Welcome,
It's been a little while since I have posted anything, however I am still busy doing art, amongst some other things. I've also started a new job which is keeping me very busy.

I will be at the Castlemaine Artists Market this Sunday at Western Reserve, Castlemaine between 10-2. As we are heading into Reconciliation Week, local Castlemaine Elder Uncle Rick Nelson will be doing conducting a Smoking Ceremony. I would encourage you all to come along in the spirit of Reconciliation and show your support.

I am just under 700 followers on Facebook and just under 300 on Instagram. I am thinking I might have a little call out - let's see if I can get to 700 and 300 followers over Reconciliation Week. Tag a friend in the comments section and if your friend becomes the 700th follower, both of you will receive a $20 gift voucher. I'm looking forward to seeing some of your friends joining us.
