Another workshop coming up by Cass, Saturday week!

📢 Free practical marketing workshop for artists in the Ipswich and Nambour regions.

This workshop invites creatives and arts workers to think beyond demographics and explore the motivations, values and behaviours that shape arts participation.

Using current audience research and tools, we'll explore how to identify potential audiences, understand what might motivate (or prevent) them from attending, and translate those insights into stronger marketing.

Through practical exercises, participants will workshop copy, imagery and other marketing assets, exploring how small changes can make your work more relevant and meaningful to the audiences you want to reach.

This workshop will be presented by Cass Ramsay, Regional Arts Advisor for Theatre from RASN Partner Organisation, JUTE Theatre Company.

Our RASN Theatre Advisor Cass has been supporting artists across Queensland - most recently at More than Applause: Pathways in the Performing Arts, hosted by Ipswich City Council, and through a playwriting workshop on Yuwi Country / Mackay.

After the workshops, Cass spent time chatting one-on-one with artists and theatre makers about their projects - making connections, identifying creative development opportunities and talking through possible next steps.

It’s just one of the ways RASN supports regional artists beyond formal programs and events - whether you have a project you’re trying to progress, want to make new industry connection, or simply need someone to talk through ‘what next?’

This International Literacy Day, we’re celebrating the many ways stories live, travel and are passed from one generation to the next.

This week, a creative team working on Three Dresses is On Country in Hope Vale, working with community on the stage adaptation of Wanda Gibson’s award-winning children’s picture book.

Moving the award-winning book Three Dresses from page to stage is about much more than adapting a book. It is about listening to the story in the place it comes from, celebrating Guugu Yimithirr language and culture, and exploring how words, images, music, movement and performance can open a story up for a new generation of young audiences.

At the heart of the work is Wanda’s story of childhood, family, Country, resilience and the joy found in simple things - a story that began on the page and is now taking another step in its journey.

We’re grateful to be developing this work On Country with the people and community who have shaped it.

Our Dare to Dream tour is wrapping up this week at Bentley Park College, with the team performing three shows in the school’s theatre and running workshops with four different groups.

Actors Djalu and Shey and stage manager Donovan were joined yesterday by Karina Hocke from our long-time supporters Ergon Energy during Electrical Safety Week, rounding out the final week of the 8-week tour and another great run of performances and workshops with young people across the region ⚡

Resist the Switch by Grace Edward has been published on Playlab! Written by Grace while working here at JUTE as the Ubuntu Theatre Project program coordinator, the play is inspired by the experiences of the wonderful cohort of African New Migrants that took part in the program. Resist the Switch was performed by the emerging Ubuntu actors at the conclusion of the 8-month program at Bulmba-ja Arts Centre to sell out audiences. You can now purchase a copy on the Playlab web site and relive this wonderful story.

Fearless returned to JUTE for a five-day creative development, culminating in a public showcase and post-show Q&A.

The showing was incredibly well received, with audiences responding strongly to the story, characters and relationships, and many saying the work prompted them to think more deeply about its themes.

Thanks to everyone who joined us, shared their thoughts and helped shape the next stage of the work.

Last Thursday, our wonderful Harmony Voices participants took to the stage once again at the Multicultural Extravaganza, held here at Bulmba-ja Arts Centre, where selected pieces from their original showcase were performed for another audience.

Harmony Voices is an eight-week program that helps participants strengthen their English language skills and build confidence through theatre-based activities, culminating in a special showcase performance.

The program’s impact has extended well beyond the stage, with an incredible 80% of participants also enrolling in registered courses and taking important steps towards future employment opportunities.

We couldn’t be prouder of what they’ve achieved.
