No. 3 of 6: Kunjuri (Rainforest Shield) design by Yalanji artist Gregory Salt. These shields were carved from a single piece of timber cut from side of the buttress root of a rainforest fig-tree. They were decorated with clan, totem or moiety designs using natural ochres and a water, fat or blood binder.Designed at Yalanji Arts, Mossman Gorge. Produced in Melbourne.

Our school holidays have just finished and while it was on we opened up our studio to some emerging Yalanji artists.

They really enjoyed the process of working with clay and producing their own pinch pots as well as other pieces.
