Even though this news article is now three years old, the message behind it is just as important today as it was then.

The Cairns Show simply wouldn't exist without the incredible volunteers, committee members, stewards, exhibitors, sponsors, and supporters who generously give their time, knowledge, and passion year after year. ❤️

Many of these dedicated individuals have been involved with the Show for decades, helping preserve traditions and ensuring the Cairns Show continues to thrive for future generations.

But as we look to the future, we also need to encourage the next generation to get involved.

Whether it's volunteering, stewarding a competition section, joining a subcommittee, helping behind the scenes, or simply sharing new ideas, young people have an important role to play in shaping the future of the Cairns Show.

The Cairns Showgrounds were proud to host such an important gala dinner in our Main Arena on Saturday night.

What makes nights like this truly special is seeing one charity support another — all for the benefit of our community. It’s a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when people come together for a greater cause.

We’re honoured to play a small part in moments that make a big difference.

ONE.

One night.

One million dollars.

One patient speaker.

One new ECMO service coming to Cairns.

One incredible community.

This is what Saturday night looked like as we hosted our annual donor dinner at the Cairns Showgrounds.

This year, we set out to raise enough to establish an ECMO service - life-saving equipment that can mean the difference between life and death for the most critically unwell patients in Intensive Care.

And wow, did our community step up.

Incredible generosity led by Kenfrost Homes, Denise and Ellis Richardson, Bresnahan Family, Chapman Foundation, Mills Family Foundation, Fowler’s Group, EMS Exports - and so many others - helped raise an extraordinary $1.1 million.

Surpassing our $800,000 goal, means we can now not only begin work on the ECMO service, but also take the next step towards funding a CT device for use during orthopaedic spinal surgery.

You’ll be hearing much more about our donor dinner in the coming weeks - but for now, thank you.

On behalf of future patients, thank you.

* ECMO is a temporary, advanced life-support therapy. It pumps a patient's blood outside the body to an artificial lung machine, which adds oxygen and removes carbon dioxide. By doing the work of the heart and lungs, ECMO gives these organs time to rest and heal.

Who remembers the Cairns Showband?

For many years, the sounds of brass, drums, and marching feet were a much-loved part of the Cairns Show experience. Whether leading parades, entertaining crowds, or adding to the atmosphere around the grounds, the Cairns Showband was a familiar sight for generations of Showgoers.

Today, we're fortunate to have the wonderful RSL Drums and Bagpipes helping bring music and tradition to our event - but we couldn't help taking a trip down memory lane and remembering these legends!
