In November 2020 I mixed an awesome NAIDOC show in Bangalow with and the .
(Nat) was at the show and when we caught up for the first time in ages afterwards we were excited to collaborate on some creative projects in the future.
A few days later called Nat from Maningrida needing help with his boys’ music and through some crazy sets of circumstances a month later were in Mullumbimby!
The boys had never been outside of the Territory before let alone in a recording studio, but after Julian at generously donated his rehearsal space, JC120 and brand new drum kit, donated his guitars, AC30 and guitar teching skills, James Lyall donated his bass and volunteered to come and document some of the process, we managed to record an awesome 6 track EP called ‘The Next Future’.
The first photo was taken at Nowave after we had finished recording :)
7 months later we had the Masters back from (who also donated his time and skills) and Nat, Rob, and I were on our way to Arnhem Land to work on a project for .
While we were there the Rostrons generously took us to their home country Dukala-djarranj and along the way we shot amazing films clips for the first two singles with the whole family including .mathias - the traditional dancer in the band
The second photo is everyone out at Dukala-djarranj 🤍
The first single ‘Lonely Bangardi’ and amazing clip by Rob come out this Friday August 26th and I can’t wait for people to see and hear it!
Nat’s .people.creative has been the driving force behind the amazing wave of generosity that has facilitated this whole journey for the boys so far. I’m so thankful to her and to everyone that has contributed and to have been able to be a part of it myself 🙏🏼
But the heart of the wildfire is Victor - whose passion for his family and for the preservation and sharing of knowledge, language and culture is truly inspirational 🔥
He also features on lead vocals on the second single ‘Mararradj’ ;)
… to be continued …
