PLAY • The ultimate gift for our mummas, mother figures and fathers doing double time •

Give time back to the nurturer in your life

The one that build an environment for you to play freely

The one that might seldom take the time to nurture themselves

The one that made the choice to alter their worlds, hearts and minds so you could flourish

Gift vouchers available for a seat at our tabke to get back in touch with their kid selves. To get out of their minds and into some MUD 🤎

*a note that this day can feel sensitive for some. For yearning mothers or mothers that can no longer cradle their babes and mothers with challenged dynamics. This offering honours these mothers.

We will continue to create a safe cocoon to settle your systems. A disconnect to reconnect.

Dove Broomham born to the heavens April 9th 3:25pm

I debated posting anything about this but it feels too in the shadows and silenced for women who experience it. As if it never happened at all. When your body and brain sings a very different song. I share a closeness with my Muddy family who I have come to know over years so putting this here in case it helps someone else feel less alone or even gives permission to talk if that feels right. There’s no right or wrong way of going about it, it’s real and not your fault.

We are so excited to be parents and gutted we won’t be bringing Dove home in the way we’d hoped. To anyone who has experienced something similar, I see you. And although grief holds different strokes to the individual I found it helpful to name our baby and acknowledge myself as a mother and Nick as a father. I felt shame in my body and worry to un-tell those we’d shared the news because it didn’t exist anymore. But it does exist in a big and different way. It has in fact been cathartic to share our daughter’s name and existence with those we love and it dissolved my shame and helped me understand at a cellular level that I am and always will be a mother to a little soul who will never leave me.

A poem that I feel connected to:

Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

Thank you endlessly to the midwives and staff at Lismore Base hospital who made me feel so safe in such uncertain times and thank you to my love Nick who is not only experiencing his own loss, but taking care of Dove and I in the process.

It’s CRITHMATH! (Nearly) and what better way to make it merry than DIY Christmas decorations for your tree.

Last year I made these baby blue sweeties with red ribbon and of course Buddy was the angel that topped the tree 🌲

TIPS TIPS TIPS (for making your own)
• Use cookie cutters to make your life easy - you can get Christmas themed ones WOWEE
• Roll your slab SUPER THIN so that the decorations don’t weigh down your tree branches or fall off nkay?
• Cut your thread holes large enough for ease of threading and not too close to the edges to avoid snapping

That’s it! Happy making x

Merry Makemas!

Fancy gifting your fam/friends/kringles a hand shaped object for Christmas?

Over here at MUDDY we are XXL Christmas fanatics and not shy about it. If there’s something we love most it’s the brand of your hand. Gifting thoughtful forms slab, pinched or coiled by your very own mitts.

This is a particularly nice time if the 25th feels financially stressful and you want to opt out of buying. A class or two can afford grandma a new fruit bowl, ma and pa a mug each and a series of tailored Christmas decorations for all the humans. Or whatever you bloody please!

We can get very merry on a minor-dime, friends and November is the time to do it!

Well glaze and fire your goodies for you ready for the big day 🤎

Link in bio to snag yourself a November spot x

*makemas has a November cut off so that we can get your goodies glazed and fired in time for Christmas

I felt very nervous to get back into making post holiday. 5 weeks without clay beneath my fingernails. I’ve been doing this for such a long time and I still get hung up on the shoulds and the shouldn’ts. The pressure that lives only in my head.

The formula we give students is simple: PLAY. Just dip a toot and you’ll be ok. Play dissolves the self critic and offers a joyful exploration into the unknown. It’s where your inner kid can take the wheel and teach you the things you’ve unlearned over the years.

When I started this shape I didn’t know what would emerge. I certainly didn’t think bow handles would emerge but I love her. Just as she is.

My Japan Ceramics Loot 🇯🇵 (as promised)

1. Favourites
2. Hand built mugs, thrown plates, hand built laksa spoons, chopstick knots from Shizen near Asakusa
3. Slipcast porcelain marbled mug made in the Mino area, purchased down an offshoot backstreet of an Osaka market
4. Poj Studio thrown teaware, Kyoto
5. Wood fired cup and faceted mug from an exhibition at Rikka Knot, Kyoto
6. Traditional teaware, Iijima, Nagano Prefecture
7. Imported Italian mugs, Kyoto
8. Imported Italian bowls, Kyoto (regrets on not getting the matching plates)
9. Wheel thrown stackable mug set, the blue man, Yokohama
10. Stackable porcelain mugs traditionally crafted in Hasami
11. Wheel thrown goblets and excellent cutlery, Nara backstreet
12. Traditional matcha cups, Narai-Juku historic township

I eventually honed my ceramics hunting skills in the understanding that you need to keep your eyes extra peeled for random nooks that house such wares. They’re everywhere and nowhere. In unassuming corners and up rickety stairs. In second hand spots and fish markets. Riddled throughout Japan with largely no online presence. Joyful pockets of goodness from some of the most skilled hands.
