Tickets for the event as still on sale and will be available from the Visitor Centre until 4pm Saturday - a few tickets will be available at the door - cash only!

Russell Crowe's film crew finishes filming at the Mine Pool today. The committee will go down Wednesday evening to recce the site and see if we need to do any tidying up, weeding etc so that it looks great for you on February 8th.

A little interesting info about our venue. The Burra Monster Mine was known throughout the world for the richness of its copper ores. It began in 1845 when a shepherd discovered copper ore near Burra Creek and for the first ten years of its life was the largest mine in Australia. Its discovery marked the beginning of a period of unprecedented growth and prosperity for SA. The Monster Mine was one of the great copper mines of the world.
All mining was carried out underground until 1870 when an open cut operation began in an effort to extract lower grade profitably. Unfortunately low copper prices forced the Monster Mine to close down in 1877 and it remained abandoned for almost a century. In 1971 the mine opened again and open cut mining resumed until the ore supply was exhausted in 1981.
The stunning Mine Pool and the magnificent cliffs provide the unique and historically significant setting for our Monster Mine Spectacular. This amazing site is only open to the public this one night of the year. Don't miss your opportunity to experience its breathtaking beauty!
