I'm thrilled to have sold another piece. I hope whoever bought it enjoys having my little mice in their home. The Cradle Mountain Wilderness Gallery still have some stickers and greetings cards of the painting for sale if you find yourself enjoying the snow at Cradle Mountain anytime soon.

I've been on holiday with my family on the Murray River in South Australia.

I painted this A5 watercolour on the houseboat on the Murray with water from the river to commemorate the holiday and the hundreds and hundreds of pelicans we've been surrounded by for the past week.

I think I will call it "Fishing Buddies"

The Tasmanian Mushroom Festival Fungi Art Exhibition is on at the Cradle Mountain Wilderness Gallery. I had a lovely time at the exhibition opening on Saturday getting to see the other fungi-inspired works, some of which are magnificent. There are several other exhibitions running concurrently at the gallery, so if you find yourself at Cradle Mountain any time over winter and need a warm place to go for a couple of hours, spend some time perusing the artworks and see if you can spot my little mice amongst them.

"The Vantage Point"
A5 watercolour portrait of a Kelpie I painted at the very last second to send up to the Kelpie Muster Rotary Art Show.

I've wanted to be involved in the Kelpie Muster for a couple of years now, but due to the busyness of life and an artwork that I was working on for the wonderful Dienece Darling, author (I'll share that one when the time comes) I barely left myself any time to paint. Maybe I'll be more organised for the next muster and paint something more ambitious, but for this year I'm happy with this little painting.

I have a massive soft spot for Kelpies because my dog, Sierra, is part Kelpie. Sierra (my profile picture is a portrait I painted of Sierra a few years ago) is a rescue and we don't know her parentage, but she not only looks like a Kelpie - she also has the incredible ability to jump that the breed is known for. Kelpies are working dogs, their traits are selected to make dogs perfect for farm dogs, herding both cattle and sheep. Kelpies are born with springs in their legs and jump easily onto the back of farm utes, motorbikes, or even horses, over fences or gates, and onto the backs of a mob of sheep in a sheep yard. When not working, Kelpies are as likely to be found lying atop their kennels as inside them, as they always seem to want to be at height. I knew that when I painted a kelpie portrait I wanted to paint one on top of a high object.
