John Rowles was a typical New Zealand kid, growing up in the fifties and sixties, listening to The Platters, Elvis, Little Richard and others of that era. He arrived in Australia at 17 years of age and within months was working on Bandstand and the Johnny O’Keefe Show. His smash single If I Only Had Time topped the charts in Britain, New Zealand and Australia. He followed it up with Top Ten hits Hush, Not a Word To Mary, The Pain Goes on Forever, One Day and M’lady. Next came the smash hit Cheryl Moana Marie, which he wrote for his younger sister. In 2018, John Rowles was awarded with a Knighthood for his enormous contribution to the entertainment industry.
