Although we know these things, it's always helpful to have others reiterate how good dancing is for everyone. Thank You to Queensland Health for sharing this information via email to us.
We are VERY supportive of the many benefits of dancing and are happy to share these points with you all:
Five ways music is good for your mind
1. Music can improve your mental wellbeing
Listening to music can reduce cortisol (stress hormone) levels and boost your brain’s production of dopamine and serotonin ('feel-good' hormones). It can lift your mood and reduce some symptoms of depression.
2. Music activates almost all of your brain
Harvard Medical School says that music lights up nearly all areas of the brain, including the areas which activate emotional responses to music through memory, and the pleasure centres of the brain.
3. Music stimulates your memory
Because it activates so many areas of your brain, music doesn't only help you retrieve stored memories, it also helps create new ones.
4. Music is social
Listening to or making music with others is a social activity. Whether you're attending a live concert, a recital, playing in a band, singing in church, or just wailing away to your favourite song in your car, you are sharing music with others. Even when you listen to music on your own, in a way you are sharing it with the people who made it. The act of sharing music generates feelings of social connection that can create a sense of belonging and enhance feelings of wellbeing.
5. Music can help you exercise more often and better
Listening to energetic music can literally energise you—motivating you to exercise, and helping increase your endurance and the intensity of your workouts.
We know exercise alone is good for your mental wellbeing, so exercise plus music harmonise together perfectly!
