The theme for the next exhibition at the is a n**e and nature. I don’t normally paint n**es though I do love life drawing. however, there’s an artist I follow on Instagram who style I adore and I’ve always wanted to try it. I cannot remember their name and they haven’t posted it recently so I had to go from my memory. This is my version and I’m quite happy with how she turned out.

I was taking a sketch out of one of my frames so I could reuse the frame and found this piece on the back. I think I meant to come back to it. I just lost interest, but I appreciate it more now.

Got back into some watercolor recently, and this is one I’ve been playing with. Photograph doesn’t quite represent the right colours. It’s changed somehow. Her face is not quite that purple but it seems that’s the way the cameras picked it up. It’s also difficult to photograph the metallic pewter in her hair. It’s shown up quite intensely here and it’s much more subtle, but that’s what it is. A bit of fun.

This scratchboard is currently on display at as my entry this year into the Marborough art prize. Scratchboard is a solid board that is then coated with a layer of clay and then black ink. And the process is you scratch through the ink to reveal the clay underneath. It’s very time-consuming but so rewarding. The marks are made using blades or, in my case tattoo needles as I wanted an incredibly fine marks. I then used watercolor just to slightly tint the skin trying to look like a hand touched photo. I love the way the fabric falls on this piece and I feel you can tell. It’s a shimmering fabric and contrast that against the texture of the feather boa. I’ve enjoyed working on this so much.

I was thrilled to see this little red dot at the opening last weekend. This piece is inspired by the poem Wetlands by Judi Down, a poem about the Bundaberg area which resonated with me. The work is called dragonfly wings. Unfortunately i didn’t photograph it properly before the exhibition, so this will have to do.

Meet “miss monroe”. I started this a few months back and loved working on such a large canvas. I love the bright colours and summer feel. She’s of to the 1770 art prize today.

I recently tried out scratch board with a local artist Carmel Birchley and found it fascinating. It’s a clay board coated with black ink that I’ve purchased And then you scratch or scrape into the surface with a knife or, in my case, a tattoo needle it’s very slow and painstaking work but rewarding.

I can’t believe I haven’t posted anything in such a long time. The last few pieces I finished are for the incognito art show and so I can’t show you those yet. This is what I did a couple of months ago and forgot to post.

Found a piece that I finished a while ago and not shared. Mixed media.
