We are very excited to welcome Jack (past student and former Bundaberg Eisteddfod adjudicator) into the studio this week! All groups are lucky enough to have the opportunity to work with him.

Jackson is an award-winning actor who works in theatre and film. Recent stage credits include: Sir Toby Belch (Twelfth Night - Australian Shakespeare Company); Woof (Hair); Macduff (Macbeth - Australian Shakespeare Company - Melbourne and London seasons); Clown (The 39 Steps - Hearth Theatre); John Proctor (The Crucible); Mystery of the Valkyrie (QPAC, Woodward Productions); The Owl and the Pussycat (Little Match Productions National Tour - Matilda Award Winner); Naked and Screaming (La Boite Theatre Company - Matilda Nominee); Happy/Howard (Death of a Salesman - Queensland Theatre Company - Matilda Nominee); Benjamin/Snowball (Animal Farm - Shake and Stir National Tour); Wisdom (Queensland Theatre Company); and Bottom (A Midsummer Night's Dream - Melbourne Shakespeare Company). On screen, his work has been seen in festivals throughout Australia and the world, including lead roles in CCTV Nasty, Gotcha and Thea and Lucia.
In 2020, Jackson was librettist and director of the online children’s opera There Once Was A Puffin alongside collaborator Luke Volker, and later toured the live theatre adaptation to regional Queensland.
Originally trained in drama and musical theatre, he also works extensively with young artists for Queensland Theatre Company, La Boite, Grin and Tonic, Complete Works, Shake and Stir and many other companies throughout Australia as a teaching artist, director and adjudicator.

Thank you to every student, family, student teacher and supporter who has been part of our journey over the past 25 years.

This week’s concerts were truly special, and we’re so grateful to everyone who came along to celebrate, cheer, and support our performers.

Tech - Jakob Baumgartner

Hi, I’m Jakob B. I’m 24, single, good with my hands (technically… literally), and have been known to fall in love with a well-organised lighting desk.
…Oh. Wrong bio?
Too late. We’re committing.

Jakob has been lurking around Bundaberg’s theatre community since he was old enough to plug things in and not electrocute himself. He’s a longtime friend of Drama Queens and many of its members, which is convenient because half of them have tried to set him up at some point.

After spending years at the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre—where he developed a reputation for being reliable, talented, and weirdly calm in chaotic situations—Jakob moved to Brisbane to work in casino entertainment. Yes, he deals with high-stakes environments daily. No, sadly, this has not improved his luck in the dating department.

Despite living in the big city, Jakob regularly returns to Bundaberg to help Drama Queens with special projects, mostly because they ask nicely… and also because free food.

He is proud to support the region that raised him, the creatives who tolerate him, and any future partner who enjoys long walks backstage, soft glows of LED wash lights, and someone who can fix absolutely anything except his own love life.

Sound Technician - Caitlin Heffernan

Caitlin is the only person you know who can spend the day designing playgrounds and then spend the night choreographing where she insists on adding left spins and kicks to every routine just to mess with the right-sided dancers. With 26 years of experience, she is your local expert in Hip Hop and Acrobatics.

Her performance resume is stacked—from taking the stage at Disneyland U.S. to playing Frenchy in Grease—but her real passion is choreographing complex full-scale musicals like Priscilla Queen of The Desert (BPI) and Grease (BPI) and fitting them into her schedule, despite always being late.

She is pumped to be flexing her technical theatre muscles as a crew member for the 25 in 25.

Performer - Tim Heffernan

Tim is a local physiotherapist, actor and performer. He regularly performs at The Playhouse Theatre, as well as in Red Head Productions, with solos, groups and part of his quartet iV. He is also a very skilled and accomplished swimmer, having competed in some of the highest ranks in the country.

Stage credits include: Brad Majors in The Rocky Horror Show, Mr Darcy in Pride and Prejudice, Sailor in Anything Goes, Doody in Grease, Papa Bear in Shrek, Donald in A Little Murder Never Hurt Anyone & more (BPI).

When Tim initially moved to Bunaberg in 2019 at 23 years of age, he had no musical bone in his body. He somehow met a wonderful group of musically talented people at the Bundaberg Playhouse theatre and the rest is history. He remembers asking Bex to help him with his singing after discovering his love of performing in musicals. Poor Bex. He needed A LOTTT of work. Now he can't picture a life without music or his beloved DQ family.

Choreographer and Performer - Shalyn Knight

Shalyn is a proud Bundaberg performer, photographer and teacher. A graduate of
Griffith University, she has studied and performed across the UK, including the RSC.
She worked a Stage Manager on the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Opening and
Closing ceremonies, as well as the state tour of Jane and Kel Goes To Hell
(Sharehouse Theatre Company). Shalyn was also a founding member of the Young
Actors Company at La Boite Theatre, writing, publishing and staging “Define Adult.”

Stage credits include: Magenta/Usherette in The Rocky Horror Show, Jan in Grease,
Jane in Pride and Prejudice, Chastity in Anything Goes, Cinderella in Shrek (BPI),
Mother in RAIN, The Politician, Amy in Hopelessly Devoted (Griffith University).

Film credits include: Harrow (ABC), Lunatics (Netflix), QLD Government Domestic
Violence Campaign, Western Front (Wildbear Entertainment)

Shalyn is also a skilled events photographer, with credits including Thirsty Merc,
Brisbane Writers Festival, Brisbane Immersive, Ad Astra Theatre Company, Backdock Arts, Anywhere Theatre Festival, Dendy Cinemas and The Playhouse Theatre.

Shalyn has choreographed, photographed and performed with the Elite Performance
Team since joining 3 years ago and is forever grateful for the support, training and
opportunities it has given her. Along with Alana, she is instrumental in remembering
which of Bex’s step tap combo goes in which routine!

Choreographer - Alana Bender

Beginning her dance journey at just five years old, Alana has grown into a fully qualified dance teacher and dedicated choreographer. She is passionate about inspiring dancers, building confidence and creating choreography that celebrates expression, energy and joy on stage. Since joining EPT she has enjoyed the balance of combining singing and dancing and performing with her friends who she now considers a second family.
Alana particularly enjoys adding lifts and partner work to the choreography and the freedom to create routines alongside Shalyn.

The Elite Performance Team are incredibly grateful to the endless hours Alana spends choreographing and teaching dance numbers.
