INLOVE ONLINE DUO: pedal steel/voice & piano. Originals
InLove Online is the newest project from Melbourne-based musician and producer James Gilligan. He will perform songs from the upcoming debut album Want For Nothing; written and recorded within the constraints of a remote studio. The record displays exemplary vocal performances and a unique sonic style derived from a sampler, a pedal steel, a bass guitar, a fiddle and a vocal microphone - all taken to their limits. InLove Online's unique cross-genre approaches to songwriting combined with such a bold production aesthetic, reveals a rare depth and an honest well to drink from. For this special performance, the inimitable Kade Brown will accompany James at the piano.
TOM STUART-TONER: solo parlour guitar. Originals & standards
Tom Stewart-Toner’s work encompasses jazz, free improvisation, classical, electronic, and blues/rock music. Growing up in country Victoria playing rock and blues music, Tom went on to study undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in jazz/improvisation and classical music, respectively.
BEN HARRISON: solo banjo/voice. Originals & old-time/Appalachian
Ben "Bovril" Harrison is a banjo player and singer from Melbourne, who has tried to learn a fairly obscure American folk style, loosely labelled as "old time" music, from whatever resources he can in Australia. He injects an authentic energy into the music, but his arrangements, interpretations and style are his own.
Ben has also written original tunes rooted in the style, as can be seen on his album "Bluey" 2020. You can expect to hear some 'high lonesome' singing, some shredding clawhammer and some original tunes that sound like they could have been written 200 years ago.

***TODAY: Call to action - Support Melbourne's bike lanes***
You may have seen reports that the City of Melbourne is pausing its rollout of new bike lanes in the CBD due to backlash from some businesses, residents and combustion engine enthusiasts.
If this pause goes ahead - and if the pause turns into a full stop - it will be a devastating blow to progress on active transport infrastructure in Melbourne. And if this happens in Melbourne, it could have ripple effects in Brunswick and around Victoria.
Bike infrastructure benefits everyone. Sally Capp knows it - that's why she penned a piece for The Age in support of these lanes just a few months ago. (Link in comments.)
But we're at risk of being drowned out by a minority of loud voices who are committed to private vehicle culture at all costs.
The good news is, it's not over yet. You can still make your voice heard.
The Future Melbourne Committee is meeting tomorrow, Tuesday 7 June, at 5:30pm. Please make a written or verbal submission by 10am Tuesday, asking Melbourne councillors not to pause these essential infrastructure works. (See link in comments for instructions.)
Let Melbourne councillors know how important these bike lanes are, and how much you’ve enjoyed riding around the city with the lanes they've put in recently.
My message to Sally Capp? "Thank you for the bike lanes. I'm sorry I never told you how much I appreciated them!"
And if you're especially keen, you can join Moreland BUG and Bicycle Network outside Melbourne Town Hall at 5:30pm on Tuesday to show your support in person.
