World Mental Health Day 💙

October is Mental Health Awareness Month with October 10th marking World Mental Health Day.

This years theme 🌙 When people feel they belong, everyone benefits.

This year's campaign reminds us that while wellbeing looks different for everyone, connection, belonging and support matter to us all.

Mental health does not exist in isolation from the rest of our lives. It is shaped by our relationships, communities, workplaces and everyday experiences. When we experience discrimination, exclusion or harassment, the impacts can extend far beyond the moment itself, affecting confidence, participation, relationships and overall wellbeing.

💙Mental Health Month is a reminder that creating mentally healthy communities, workplaces and services is a shared responsibility. Sometimes the most meaningful action is simply checking in, listening without judgement, speaking up when something is not right, or standing alongside someone who needs support.

👑KIMBERLEY’S KING OF THE TONGS! 👑

A massive congratulations to Broome’s own Michael Albert, who has been crowned Bunnings’ 2026 Legend of the Tongs! 🏆

After more than 30 years of giving back to Cable Beach Football Club as a player, captain, committee member and president, Mick’s dedication to the club and the wider Kimberley community has been recognised on a national stage.

Out of 720 entries from across Australia, Michael came out on top, securing a huge $25,000 in Bunnings products and materials for Cable Beach Football Club.

From kicking goals on the field to firing up the BBQ off it, Mick has been a huge part of what makes Cable Beach Football Club what it is.

We had a wonderful few days recently pitching Melody Dia’s deadly play, ‘Because We’re Blak’, to the annual Australian Performing Arts Market in Brisbane, APAX.

In case you missed it, this play premiered here in May to nightly standing ovations, co-produced by Goolarri Media with ILBIJERRI Theatre Company, Australia’s leading First Nations Theatre Company. Delighted to be joined by special surprise guest, our leading actor Aunty Roxanne McDonald, who delighted the audience by jumping on stage to share her pride and joy in this play!

This year’s celebration will be over 4 days and 5 events - with much pride, fun, celebration for our Kimberley Rainbow Mob but also for our Elders, families, friends, chosen families, allies and the wider community to join Goolarri Media in this accessible and inclusive Kimberley event.

⭐️Family and Community Fun Fair Day at Goolarri on Saturday, 19 September from 3.00pm-7.00pm.

This is a free event and alcohol free and will include music, a free sausage sizzle, kids’ activities, Elders’ Lounge, Nagula Jarndu special edition block printing by Martha Lee, stalls and great door prizes including a Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm live pearl shell opening.

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Awareness Day❤️

The 9th day of the 9th month is observed every year in recognition of the importance of being alcohol free for the nine months of pregnancy.

There is no known safe amount of alcohol which can be consumed during pregnancy and it is the responsibility of the whole community to support alcohol free pregnancies.

Indigenous Literacy Day! ☀️

Indigenous Literacy Day (ILD) is a national celebration of First Nations peoples’ stories, cultures, and languages. This years theme is ‘Country is our Teacher’.

Each year, ILD creates a free film and hosts a free livestream event to help people learn about First Nations stories, cultures, and languages.
