Youth Empowerment and Healing Cultural Camp YEaHCC- we are a non-profit organisation working at a grass roots level. Like: fishing, spearing, crabbing, story telling around the fire and heaps more!

We run camps out bush for disadvantaged children, showing & teaching them traditional ways.

Everyone was up bright and early & excited to spend a whole day on the boat and at the beach!đŸ€©đŸŽŁ

They went spearing crabs for bait, then we were off!

We got about 18-20 fish, mostly blue bones (sorry don’t have photo’s of the fishes due to phone going in the water)😆

Country has the most gorgeous view, sunrise and sunsets ever! (Pender Bay)😍

Photo’s from our second week.

Kid’s went straight down to the beach and collected some Julgamagada (bomb shell) then put them on the fire to munch out, but some kid’s didn’t find it that great😂

Some kid’s did their very own ”talent show” performing all different talents (got some video’s and will post later) đŸ€©

Had good yarns and story telling with some of the elders, learnt about their background and culture and had the kids telling us theirs, which was good😁

The girl’s also did some hair braiding while the boys were out on the boat catching us some lunch 🐟

Went and had a look at Kooljaman, which had a beautiful view from the lunch area 😍

Had an invite to Gambanan for a “catch and cook” fishing activity. Kid’s were interested in looking at the fish traps and the gorgeous view before heading down to do some fishing 🎣

Some more photo’s.

Had a quick look at the Hatchery in Ardiyooloon (one arm point). Some of the kids that haven’t been there were really amazed by the goorlil (turtle) and the other sea animals 😍

The kids were admiring the gorgeous view at Cygnet Bay while having a swim and having a delicious lunch.

Kid’s also went on the boat and brought back some big blue bone’s 😁

They also tried out some dugong (sea cow) ribs, cooked their own sausages and chops.

Photo’s from our previous camp held in April.

On our way out on the red dirt road turned out to be a slippery and wet river. Kids didn’t mind though, they actually thought it was great 😂

Kid’s were excited to go oystering, fishing, spearing and a whole lot of things. Even did some drawing and painting, which were amazingđŸ€©

They cooked and cleaned after theirselves and even set up their own tents and swags.

The kid’s loved to yarn around the fire telling us all sorts of stories while cooking some marshmallows and fish.

The kids had a great experience and even wanted to come on the second week! đŸ˜±

On our second camp we had the Oorany Rangers show us how to make Madoorr (gubinge/Kakadu plum) bush medicine. The kids were very interested in learning about bush medicine and listening to their stories. So a big thank you to the Oorany Rangers! 😁

Here’s some photo’s from our very first camp in ~2017~ and it was awesome! The kids loved the week away in the bush and wasn’t that happy to leave 🙁

-Went and looked at the sea animals at the hatchery in Ardiyooloon (One Arm Point). The kids were really excited about it and was amazed by the shell designs, and the kids also got their own shell necklaces! đŸ€©

-Went to Cygnet Bay and had a relaxing swim, also had a delicious meal.

-Had an activity session at the police station, also went and checked out the interview rooms and jail cells (which isn’t nice to be in). 😳

-Had some of the kids learning how to throw net’s at the beach, also did some fishing and swimming on a hot day đŸ„”
