Belle Miners tonight at the Broome Senior High Theatre - what a gorgeous gig. Dylan Dauley kicked things off, a genuine talent and a good kid all round. Then the Belle Miners took it from there with soaring three part harmonies, tasteful musicianship, and just being really pleasant to work with. Big fan.

I did Daine dirty on the pictures - he's much too handsome to be left out completely, but I didn't have a vantage point where I could see the poor man. Very tasteful drumming from Felicia's shadow.

Good news and bad news in the Troppo Shop today.

Good news: I ordered in these handy-dandy pick holders for a customer, and they've just arrived!
Bad news: I've lost their contact details, so I have no way of letting them know.

Double-sided tape sticks the holder securely to your amplifier, or your guitar, so there's always somewhere safe to stash your picks on stage, or the keyring model has 'em in your pocket ready to go, instead of fishing around in the coin pocket of your wallet.

(also available clipped to a mic stand!)

Keep your plectra more organised than my shambolic post-it note collection with a pick holder, today! And alert your mates; someone out there is probably waiting for a phone call they're not likely to receive...

Plastic parts on old gear falling apart?

3D printer can.

Spent an evening with a set of Vernier calipers and Fusion360. Modeled a fresh set of feet off the one remaining good one. Send to printer. Stuff a couple up. Swear. Fix the model. Send to printer. Strip all the supports off. Swear. Attach to gear! Like a bought one. And now they say Troppo, because I'm nothing if not vain.

Decade-old DI boxes ready to get back in the field instead of the bin.

On the bench today: Rowin's goofy-ass Jazzmaster! P90 in the front, humbucker in the back. We've swapped the gold foil P90 into the Strat and brought this opal number across, which is darker in tone and a bit grungy, necessitating a change in tone cap to brighten things up, and since we had the thing open we've put a coil split in the humbucker.

I really dig the push/push action on the coil split. It's an interesting guitar. They say a Stratocaster can do anything but sound like a Les Paul, but I'd argue that neither a Strat nor an LP sounds quite like this thing.

This one isn't for sale, it's just engagement bait (and informing people that we do repairs and ill-advised modifications).

I haven't polished it, I haven't even finished stringing it up - I was having too much fun with the push/push split. Clicky clicky.

On the bench today: a metalhead's Stratocaster! It's the weird liminal space between Christmas and New Years, so I'm going through the store finding oddities and one-offs, giving them a thorough birthday, then marking them down so they can find a home.

Rarely seen without its "Just In!" sale sign, this overdriven machine was looking a little dusty and unassuming. A light polish later, with a brand new set of Elixir 11-46 strings to beat the humidity, and a professional setup performed in house at Troppo Sound, it's ready to shred through the new year.

With an offset middle pickup to improve the bridge-middle 'bucker tone, and overwound SQR pickups, the sound matches the quiet menace of the all black hardware and brushed aluminium pickguard - a guitar born to command attention.

The special price of $850 is only available until January 7th, so come see us in store to secure this battle-ready axe!

I'm terrible at the promotion side of things - I'm usually just as surprised as you are that there's a gig on any given day.

That being said - Jackett, Pascoe, and Stephen, live at the Lounge Bar @ the Roey tonight. (Jake, work on your stage name mate)

Three of Broome's finest working musicians, riffing on original music from each of their catalogues. Soaring highs, melancholic lows, punk-rock to folk-pop and everything in between.

Doors from 5, tunes from 6. Come on down!

This is gonna be fun. Last year was a blast!

Our Story

Broome’s original sound & lights company. Founded in 1989, Troppo Sound has been rocking the Kimberley for almost 30 years. A friend to every mover and shaker to pass through town, and alumni of Stompem Ground, the Shinju Festival, Opera Under The Stars, Garnduwa Festival, and Bran Nue Dae, we’ve had an undeniable impact on the musical landscape of the Kimberley.

More recently, our shop has opened in the old shed on Hunter St., providing musical instruments, instructional books, microphones, amplifiers, speakers, literally everything you need to get your musical experience underway.

Call in to the shed today for a free measure and quote on your next gig, from the smallest suburbia back yard bash to the largest Cable Beach Amphitheatre performance.
