❄️ Save the Date: Celtic Winter is Coming! ❄️
We are working away each Tuesday night, preparing for our Celtic Winter concert to be held on Saturday, 25th July!

One of the highlights of our repertoire this time is the stirring folk song "The Catalpa", arranged by our very own MD, David O'Keeffe. It’s not just a beautiful tune—it’s a maritime thriller about one of the most audacious prison breaks in history!

In 1876, six Irish political prisoners were serving hard labor in Western Australia's Fremantle Prison. Their rescue was orchestrated halfway across the world in the U.S., where a whaling ship named the Catalpa was sent on a secret mission to bring them home.

The escape ended in a high-seas standoff! When a British steamer threatened to fire on the Catalpa, the captain famously pointed to the American flag and dared them to shoot. The British backed down, and the prisoners sailed to freedom in New York!

We’ll be letting everyone know as soon as tickets go on sale, so stay tuned. You won’t want to miss this afternoon of history, harmony, and Celtic spirit. 🎤🍀

Some of our choristers had a fantastic time again singing at the Queensland Children's Hospital in Brisbane last week!

Here's the report from Choir President, Morag Wilson (pictured on the right end of the group photo):

⭐ Cooper the beautiful 'Paw Play' assistance dog was dancing to some of our songs!

⭐ The 'Wheels on the bus' song was an absolute hoot, especially when one of our choristers always went down instead of up in the verse. The people on the bus go up and down! 😅🙃

⭐ The action songs went over really well too. One mum knew every song and all the actions, as did one of the nurses who is photographed with Moyra. The nurse was on her break and sang along to every song! She sings with the hospital choir (how lovely is that?).

⭐ Apparently, across the 30 minutes of performance time, 98 people stopped what they were doing to listen and interact with the choir and the music 🎵

We'd like to give a big thanks to our amazing choristers who volunteered their time to perform for this special event, and to our hardworking management committee (especially Morag!) who organise this and other choir events with such flair.

We would also like to sincerely thank Mathew, the Patient Experience Manager at the Children's Hospital Foundation for asking us to be a part of Family Week. It is one of the highlights of our year and we look forward to being back in December to sing Christmas Songs and carols! ☘️

Sharing the Joy of Music 🎶✨

By all accounts, it was a beautiful morning at St Vincent’s Care Home in Mitchelton this week!

A group of our choristers volunteered their time to perform for the residents, and word from the event is that it was a fantastic success and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone there.

A huge thank you to the singers who took part, with a special mention to Barbara, for providing the beautiful piano accompaniment, and Choir President Morag and other committee members for their work in organizing such a meaningful visit.

Here are a few photos from the day—it clearly was a very special morning for everyone involved! 💚☘️

A Season of Change at QIC ☘️🎶

Following our AGM at the end of March, we’re reflecting on some significant transitions within the choir. We officially farewelled our Secretary and tenor, Richard Healy (pictured in the white shirt and red shorts), and also want to acknowledge a few other long-term members who have retired in recent months. Thank you all for your years of music and dedication!

Join the Section 👋🎤

As we prepare for our Celtic Winter Concert this July, it’s a great time for new voices to join us. We are currently welcoming new members - tenors and basses especially - to join the choir.

Tuesday evening rehearsals are a mix of music and social catch-ups, usually involving a half time chat on the veranda and the very important tradition of rehearsal lollies! 🍬🍭

If you’ve been thinking about singing with a group, we’d love to meet you. You don't have to be Irish! Many of us aren't, but we love it anyway 💚

Please send us a message anytime if you'd like further information.
