❄️ Save the Date: Celtic Winter is Coming! ❄️
We are working away each Tuesday night, preparing for our Celtic Winter concert to be held on Saturday, 25th July!
One of the highlights of our repertoire this time is the stirring folk song "The Catalpa", arranged by our very own MD, David O'Keeffe. It’s not just a beautiful tune—it’s a maritime thriller about one of the most audacious prison breaks in history!
In 1876, six Irish political prisoners were serving hard labor in Western Australia's Fremantle Prison. Their rescue was orchestrated halfway across the world in the U.S., where a whaling ship named the Catalpa was sent on a secret mission to bring them home.
The escape ended in a high-seas standoff! When a British steamer threatened to fire on the Catalpa, the captain famously pointed to the American flag and dared them to shoot. The British backed down, and the prisoners sailed to freedom in New York!
We’ll be letting everyone know as soon as tickets go on sale, so stay tuned. You won’t want to miss this afternoon of history, harmony, and Celtic spirit. 🎤🍀
