Celebrating Jaidyn’s First Year at Novum!

We recently celebrated a special milestone as Jaidyn Boyce marked his first year with Novum at Stratton Bar & Kitchen!

Over the past year, Jaidyn has impressed us all with his design talent, conscientious approach, and the care he puts into every task. Balancing his architectural studies with project work, he has already made a real impact across a variety of designs and documentation.

Just as importantly, Jaidyn is an absolute pleasure to work with. His positivity and collaborative spirit make him a valued teammate.

Congratulations, Jaidyn, on your first year. We can’t wait to see all that you will continue to achieve!

CELEBRATING 8 YEARS OF NOVUM!

We marked our 8th anniversary with an afternoon that perfectly blended friendly rivalry and great conversation. The team kicked things off with an adrenaline-fuelled go karting challenge at Slideways, where every corner brought a chance to overtake (and plenty of laughter along the way).

Once the chequered flag was waved, we swapped helmets for sunhats and made our way to the Brisbane River for a long, relaxed lunch at Fosh. Surrounded by stunning water views, we shared stories, reflected on the journey so far, and toasted the many clients, collaborators, and friends who have been part of the Novum story.

Eight years in, we’re as energised as ever to keep designing spaces that help Queensland schools thrive. Here’s to the road ahead — and maybe another lap or two.

SCHOOL MASTER PLANNING SPECIALISTS

A key element of our Master Planning process is deeply understanding the strategic vision of our school clients by consulting with leadership teams and Boards. We focus on distilling the key objectives that shape the Master Plan while embedding the school’s ethos, values, and goals into every design decision.

Strategic priorities often include areas like pedagogy, curriculum development, student welfare, cultural change, enrolments, and staff wellbeing. We also consider the school’s marketability, budget, and overall value for money.

Our approach involves facilitating initial discussions, capturing insights, and presenting how these can be reflected in the Master Plan. This collaborative process not only helps clarify the vision within the school community but also makes it easier to communicate to the wider public.

Through visuals, flythrough videos, and comprehensive reports, we ensure that our designs align with your strategic goals and offer impactful ways to engage your community.

IMPORTANT: Images are intended to illustrate our Master Planning processes and exploration of design concepts and may not reflect the final plan chosen by the school. Final Master Plans may differ significantly from these concepts based on further design development, town planning approvals, stakeholder input, and feasibility considerations. Information that would identify any subject schools in the images presented has been removed.

CONSTRUCTION UNDERWAY: Emmanuel College Senior School

Construction is now progressing on Emmanuel College’s new Senior School Learning Centre on the Gold Coast, with demolition complete and detailed excavation works currently underway!

This milestone marks the beginning of a transformative project shaped in close collaboration with staff and students. The design places adaptability at its core, with writable surfaces, operable walls, high-performance acoustics and flexible furniture enabling seamless transitions between focused learning and dynamic collaboration.

At the centre of the building are two light-filled learning commons, surrounded by specialist classrooms and informal breakout zones that encourage peer-to-peer mentoring and spontaneous exchange of ideas. Indoor and outdoor amphitheatres have been integrated into the plan, offering space for performance, debate, or open-air lessons that make the most of the College’s beautiful surroundings.

A 250-seat lecture theatre and industry-standard hospitality kitchens bring real-world relevance to the campus, while the new café-style canteen will create a vibrant social hub for the entire school community.

From the earliest sketch to the current activity on site, every element has been thoughtfully considered to support student wellbeing and future-focused learning.

We’re excited to see this vision becoming reality. More updates to come as construction continues.

Construction is now well underway on the new STEAM Centre at Hills College!

Shaped through an intensive master planning process with teachers, leadership, parents, and the Board, the centre will unite Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics in one forward-thinking hub. Every space has been designed to spark curiosity and nurture real-world problem-solving, blending technical rigour with creative exploration so that students build the broad skill set today’s industries demand.

Respecting the school’s traditional civic character, the architecture will settle naturally into its surroundings, pairing familiar brick tones with contemporary detailing. A generous open-air courtyard will anchor the building, linking specialist laboratories, maker spaces, and studios with a seamless indoor-outdoor flow. Full-height glazing, wide verandas, and covered outdoor learning zones will offer clear views across the campus lake and surrounding landscape, reinforcing the connection between built and natural environments.

We are honoured to be part of this journey with Hills College and look forward to seeing the impact this space will have on future generations. Stay tuned for updates as this project comes to life!

Our new studio came alive when we recently hosted the Novum Social! Clients, consultants and construction partners filled the space with conversation and fresh ideas, reminding us that great design begins long before ground is broken.

Visitors explored our fabulous new workplace, then gathered in the Team Lounge where relaxed conversations over drinks and canapés sparked new relationships and revived familiar ones. One clear goal united everyone in the room: shaping exceptional learning environments for Queensland students. Insights shared and experiences exchanged are already informing the design concepts taking shape on our screens this week.

Thank you to all who joined us and to those who sent warm wishes from afar. Your trust motivates us to listen closely, think boldly, and deliver architecture that enriches every learner’s day.

We look forward to welcoming you back for the next Novum Social!

CONSTRUCTION UNDERWAY: Moreton Bay College Oriel Handley Hall Refurbishment

Construction is now in full swing at Moreton Bay College, and the transformation of the much-loved Oriel Handley Hall is already taking shape on site!

Our team is thrilled to see months of collaboration and design thinking turn into tangible progress. The external wall of the existing hall has been opened, revealing a striking new connection to the college quadrangle and framing the future deck that will overlook this central gathering space. Structural steel for the awning roof is rising quickly, setting the stage for an all-weather venue that blends seamlessly with surrounding buildings.

Inside, demolition is complete and new acoustic linings and treatments will soon be installed, setting the foundation for a highly adaptable hall that will serve assemblies, performances, and community events with ease. The function space and servery kitchen are also underway, ready to bring new life and versatility to the building.

This project marks our second major partnership with Moreton Bay College, and each day on site reinforces the value of the shared vision that sparked it. We look forward to updating you as the deck, interiors, and landscaping come together over the coming weeks. Watch this space for more milestones soon!

Novum Social: Celebrating our Clients, Consultants & Contractors

We recently opened the doors of our new studio, bringing together many of the clients, consultants, and builders who have collaborated with us over the last twelve months!

It was a privilege to pause the daily momentum, step away from drawings and site meetings, and simply celebrate the places we have shaped together.

The evening began with tours of our beautiful new workplace, followed by relaxed conversations over drinks and canapes in our Team Lounge. Project teams reconnected, new introductions were made, and stories of challenges overcome were shared, but the true focus was on the collaboration behind every success.

Our guests’ generosity of insight and spirit has elevated each project far beyond bricks and mortar, creating inspiring environments for Queensland learners.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and to those who sent warm wishes from afar. We look forward to another year of listening, imagining, and delivering, together.

See you at the next Novum Social event!

CONSTRUCTION COMPLETE: Hills College HPE Precinct

We are thrilled to see the Hills College HPE Precinct come to life! This vibrant new space is now a hub of activity, where students and staff are embracing the opportunities for physical activity, creativity, and connection. From the basketball and volleyball courts to the performance stage, the precinct is a dynamic environment that fosters teamwork, health, and community spirit.

Designed to support a wide range of athletic and recreational activities, the HPE Precinct is more than just a place to play—it's a space where students develop important life skills, such as collaboration, resilience, and leadership. Whether it's a friendly game of netball, a dance performance, or a whole-school gathering, the precinct offers a flexible, welcoming space that truly enhances the school experience.

We couldn’t be more proud of this project and the role it plays in enhancing the educational landscape at Hills College. A heartfelt congratulations to Rohrig for bringing this vision to life with precision and care. We look forward to seeing this space continue to inspire and support the Hills College community for many years to come!

PROJECT UPDATE: Bayside Christian College Senior School Precinct

Big things are brewing at Bayside Christian College! After years of listening, dreaming, and refining ideas with students, staff, families and the wider Hervey Bay community, the new Senior School Precinct is powering through design and documentation and will head to tender later this year.

This first stage turns the College’s long-term Master Plan into reality. Think of it as the launchpad for a campus that feels welcoming, works smarter, and celebrates the College’s Christian character every day.

A generous new car park and set-down loop will ease congestion and make morning drop-off a calmer, safer experience. From there, a purpose-designed entrance pavilion leads visitors into a light-filled hub that immediately reflects Bayside’s values of hospitality, excellence and community.

Inside, the precinct is planned around a café-style tuckshop and a fully equipped Hospitality Training Kitchen, spaces where families, staff and students can gather, recharge and celebrate achievements. Generous glazing keeps learning “on display,” showcasing STEM projects, art installations and performance rehearsals to everyone who walks past.

Digital and Flexible Labs, Visual Arts studios, Design and Technologies suites and senior study spaces will give students the tools to explore, create and collaborate. Future-ready laboratories will encourage cross-disciplinary inquiry and spark curiosity about the world God has made.

Every square metre is designed to enrich learning, strengthen relationships and future-proof the College for decades to come. We’re thrilled to be moving from design concepts to construction documents—and can’t wait to share more milestones as we edge closer to tender and, ultimately, to breaking ground. Stay tuned!
