"Quirky, charming and full of surprises... I wanted to reimagine the story without the darker elements like the wolf harming children.

Instead, I’ve set it in 1950s Brisbane, with a distinctly Queensland feel, so audiences can connect and feel a sense of ownership."

- Red Riding Hood and the Wolf Choreographer, Paul Boyd

We recently sat down with Paul to talk about the next installment in the My First Ballet series, Red Riding Hood and the Wolf.

"Audiences deserve to experience Hamlet fully and I’ve travelled from Europe to bring my interpretation of a story audiences already know.

When the audience leaves the theatre, it is my hope that the work hits somewhere – in the brain, the stomach, the heart."

We recently sat down with Leo to learn how he created the season — unlocking the movement, meaning and emotion shaping this powerful new ballet.

“Inspired by traditional Shakespearean theatres, like the Swan Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon… the stage design, by Stefano Katunar, draws from this influence.

It is intentionally light and open, giving dancers complete freedom of movement.”

- Leo Mujić, Choreographer of Hamlet

Behind the scenes as the Hamlet sets are bumped into the Talbot Theatre, Thomas Dixon Centre.

Leo Mujić’s Hamlet opens next Friday, 19 June
