Alongside our commissioning partners, Opera Australia and Oombarra Productions, we extend our warmest congratulations to the cast, crew, and creatives of The Drover's Wife on the production's recent nomination for the 2026 International Opera Awards!

QPAC presented the world premiere season of Leah Purcell and George Palmer's captivating new opera in May this year as part of the Glasshouse Theatre opening program.

In exciting news, The Drover's Wife has been nominated in the World Premiere category at this year's International Opera Awards!

Leah Purcell and George Palmer's extraordinary new opera played Queensland Performing Arts Centre and Sydney Opera House this year, and continues its journey at Arts Centre Melbourne in 2027.

The winners of the International Opera Awards will be revealed at a ceremony on 21 November.

The Drover’s Wife is co-commissioned by Opera Australia and the Queensland Performing Arts Centre in association with Oombarra Productions. The Drover’s Wife opera is based on The Drover’s Wife play, originally commissioned and produced by Belvoir St Theatre in association with Oombarra Productions through The Balnaves Foundation Indigenous Playwright’s Award. The opera’s production partner is The Balnaves Foundation.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Clancestry 2026 – from the artists and communities who shared their stories, culture and creativity, to every audience member who gathered with us across QPAC and the Festival Ground.

From powerful performances and live music to family fun, markets and cultural experiences, it was wonderful to celebrate First Nations arts and culture with you.

Clancestry returns in 2028. In the meantime, we’ll continue to bring incredible First Nations artists and stories to QPAC throughout the year.

✨ What a way to open Clancestry 2026.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for First Gathering on Friday night, celebrating First Nations culture, community and connection on South Bank's Cultural Forecourt.

The festival continues this week with Gunawarra Re-Creation, Barragga Yangga (Many Songs), Troy Cassar-Daley, before finishing with Yothu Yindi on Saturday.

There's still time to experience Clancestry before it returns in 2028.
