Polish palms are not palm leaves, and some of them are taller than a house 🇵🇱

There are no palm trees in Poland, so people built their own — dried grasses and reeds bound into a column, wrapped in ribbon, topped with paper flowers made over the winter.

In the Kurpie region it turned into a competition and never stopped. The tallest ones now go past thirty feet and have to be carried by several men and walked into the church at an angle.

The small version has bazie in it — p***y willow — and there was a custom of swallowing one of the buds for good health, which children were told very seriously.

And the palm did not get thrown out. It went behind a holy picture or over a door and stayed there until next year, when it was burnt.
