Flashback to ‘48 Shades of Brown’ in 2013. Love the strong bonds that form when working on a production together ❤️ and am always interested to know what members of the Basement Arts family are up to now. Am wanting to start making plans for our next production and open to any ideas or proposals. I’m happy to direct or just help support if anyone would like to take charge and direct a show. Looking at a timeline for either an August or October performance. Please comment or message if you want to get involved and let me know what timeline would work for you xx

This is your chance to join the creative team! Meeting Tuesday night (Feb 7) at 7pm in the Basement to throw some ideas around. From this initial expression of interest, we will select a play and commence auditions and/ or rehearsals for our first show, to be performed in early May.

Relaunching soon! Looking back to where it all began: over 10 years ago, laying out chairs and snacks with John, wondering if anyone would show up 😳 Feeling like that again, after a “Covid break”… but looking back on the photos I know that it’s worth it - so many highlights, laughs, friendships… oh yeah, and some pretty great shows with awesome people!

Stay tuned for a meeting in the Basement in the next couple of weeks. I’m open to any proposals for our first show, but also have some ideas, and would love to discuss it with anyone keen and creative. Whether you’re interested in acting, directing, design or tech, I’d love to hear from you. Would be great to reconnect with foundation members (do you still have your badge?!), past performers or fresh faces. Let me know if interested and we’ll set an open meeting date!

Congratulations to Lily Hensley, winner of our 2020 Playwriting Competition (how fortuitous that writing is the perfect isolation activity!) Lily is a 2018 graduate of Hillbrook Anglican School, who is currently studying a BFA Drama at QUT. Many of you will recognise Lily from her stint as Hillbrook receptionist, or her appearance in the Basement Arts production Death Drop (Laura McBeath's winning entry in our 2018 playwriting comp).

This year, our competition was judged by David Megaritty, whose play The Holidays won the Queensland Premier's Drama Award and is set to be performed by Queensland Theatre Company later this year. Thank you to David for his careful consideration of the submissions and the detailed feedback that he offered entrants.

Lily is currently developing her play, for hopeful performance later this year.
