Dance Masala was founded in 2012 as a Bollywood Dance School for all ages; a Bollywood Dance Agency for Performers and Excellent Instructors; and the home of Dance Masala Performance Company (Nakhre Crew), their elite performance squad.

✨ 8 DAYS TO GO ✨

In just over a week, almost 100 dancers will take the stage for WHY WE DANCE: celebrating 14 years of Dance Masala and exploring why we need spaces to move, connect and belong?

Through Bollywood performance, storytelling and conversations spanning psychology, poetry and Hindi cinema, we’ve created a show that we hope will make you laugh, feel, think, and perhaps see dance a little differently.

And we couldn’t bring something of this scale to the stage without people who believe in what we’re creating 🫶🏽

Sheetal Deo is a lawyer turned social entrepreneur, strategist and advocate who has spent her career asking a simple question: who do our systems work for - and who gets left out? That question sits at the heart of the two organisations she founded: Shakti Legal Solutions and The Diversity Collective.

Shakti Legal Solutions was created to address the “missing middle” in access to justice - supporting people who may not qualify for free legal assistance but for whom traditional legal services can still feel out of reach.

This urge to change the system from within and to create spaces where we can own our autonomy and voice, are what led to Dance Masala partnering with Shakti Legal and the Diversity Collective. We are so grateful to partner with them for WHY WE DANCE : celebrating 14 years of Dance Masala.

Featuring approximately 100 performers aged 3.5 years to adults, ‘Why We Dance’ is more than a dance concert — it’s a celebration of movement, imagination and belonging. Through vibrant Bollywood performances interwoven with heartfelt interviews, this year’s production explores why we dance, the importance of community, and how music, storytelling and movement help us connect with ourselves and each other.

This year we are honoured to be in conversation with:
• a dance movement therapist Movement Wellness & Confidence Coach | Swarali
• a trauma liberation scholar and Doctor of Psychology Dr Roksana Badruddoja
• a poet
• And, perhaps most importantly, a self-described ‘Hindi film song and dance encyclopedia in human form’ Tiwo तिवो বাবাই சௌரவ் ਤਿਵਾਰੀ
