Apply for a PhD at QUT, exploring cities, nature and wellbeing!

Expressions of interest are invited from domestic graduates, including Australian permanent residents, who may be considering a PhD within QUT’s School of Architecture and Built Environment.

The research may connect with the work of the People, Cities and Nature Specialist Group of the IUCN Commission on Environmental, Economic and Social Policy (CEESP).

Potential research areas include:
• Nature-positive cities and urban biodiversity
• Human–nature connectedness and wellbeing
• Green and blue space, environmental justice and ecological gentrification
• Nature-based Solutions and blue-green infrastructure
• Indigenous, local and cultural knowledge in urban nature governance
• Community and youth participation in environmental governance
• Planning, policy and investment approaches for biodiversity, equity and wellbeing
• Brisbane as a subtropical urban living laboratory in the lead-up to the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games

This is an expression of interest rather than a formal scholarship advertisement, and admission, supervision and scholarship arrangements are subject to QUT processes.

📅 Important: Applications need to be submitted by 31 August 2026 to be considered for a QUT scholarship.

Interested students are welcome to contact Dr Umberto Baresi at [email protected] with a short note outlining their background, research interests and the topic areas that interest them.
