Woolloongabba Art Gallery

Woolloongabba Art Gallery WAG is an independent boutique art gallery, dedicated to the exhibition and sale of quality contemporary art.

Established in 2004, the Woolloongabba Art Gallery has quickly become one of Queensland’s leading independent art galleries, dedicated to the exhibition and sale of quality contemporary art. Representing a stylistically varied selection of local and Australasian art by established and emerging artists, Woolloongabba Art Gallery’s regular exhibition program is complemented with substantial stockroo

m holdings of works by represented artists. With an ethos steeped in cultural appreciation, the gallery sources its Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander exhibitions through 100% owned and operated art centres. Located in the heart of Woolloongabba in Queensland's capital city Brisbane, the gallery boasts three exhibition spaces and operates in direct response to the need for continued dialogue in Australia’s multicultural future. Represented artists cross all mediums, from sculpture to photography, painting to installation, works on paper and ceramics. Both a homegrown and international authority on contemporary art, Woolloongabba Art Gallery has placed works in private collections throughout Australia and overseas, with many works also purchased by major Australian art galleries and museums.

How many artists does it take to hang an artwork?

Today's answer is 4.

NEUE Vol.03 celebrates art for its own sake. At NEUE, we bring together artists from diverse backgrounds and disciplines without confining them to a single theme. The exhibition creates space for artists to present their practice on their own terms, without forcing their work to fit a fixed idea.

Opening event tonight: Nowhere Fast Redux

Nowhere Fast: Brisbane’s Punk and Post-punk Scene 1978–1982 featuring photographs by Paul O’Brien, is a dark, dazzling, wild night-time ride into the Brisbane underground of the late 70s. The book of 84 selected black and white photographs includes essays by two musicians and members of the scene, Robert Forster and John Willsteed. The book is published by AndAlso Books and was supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.

Paul O'Brien's historical photographs document Brisbane's explosive punk music scene with unflinching honesty, capturing a dynamic cultural rebellion that erupted against a backdrop of pervasive government and police corruption. Beyond the broader political narrative, these images intimately chronicle the human side of the era, capturing gritty characters, devoted fans, and key figures who pushed back against the oppressive atmosphere of fear and intimidation that defined the time.

Originally launched April 5th 2024 at Woolloongabba Art Gallery featuring a selection of high quality giclée prints of images from the book and accompanying public panel discussions held at the gallery.

The opening event night for Nowhere Fast Redux is on Thursday 18 June 6pm–8pm and features an open conversation session with Robert Forster and John Willsteed.

A new offical website accompanies Nowhere Fast Redux, a part of the Brisbane's 2026 Open Season Program. https://nowherefast.photos

Woolloongabba Art Gallery’s 'Raw Sounds' is proud to announce the latest installation of live music, a femme-fronted duo acoustic set featuring frontwomen May Gleeson (Wisher) and Cat Ellerton (Dirty Harry). Raw Sounds is set to document the stripped-back sonics of Brisbane City’s thriving indie and rock music scene. Best known for their performances in Wisher and Dirty Harry, the fusion of Gleeson and Ellerton’s distinct sound celebrates acoustic experimentation. The set will shine the spotlight on the raw sonics and lyricism intrinsic to Gleeson and Ellerton’s musicality within the intimacy of the art gallery environment. Catch May Gleeson and Cat Ellerton live at the Woolloongabba Art Gallery on Thursday the 25th of June.

Big thanks to Em Tobin & Jack Montague for helping out ;-)

Unknown Sector Of The Universe

If you gather all the little moments created in the present, disregarding the past and the future eventually you create a safe haven the resides far from this known reality.

A collection resembling a world unknown to all living sentient beings.

A place beyond stars and form.

A distant location known only to those that witness this space.

An unknown sector of the universe.
