“Working against the notion that to play is a trivial action, this body of work foregrounds aesthetic risk taking and collaborative discovery as a methodology of enhancing practice and building community. As with the physical playground, genuine joy is the intention and reward for abandoning the rules and expectations of this space.”

— Jessica McNicol, excerpt from ‘Play:Ground’ exhibition essay

‘Play:Ground’ was exhibited at Ipswich Community Gallery 17-27 Sept 2025

“Borrowing imagery from its literal reference material, Play:Ground at first appears as a fun serve of light-hearted dopamine fuel. However, to reduce Kire and Jemmott’s dream-like environment to a nostalgic longing for the play-scapes of childhood detaches their work from it’s critically informed framework. Here, both play and collaboration are employed as a methodology for the reclamation of abstract minimalism, and the physical gallery space, from its severe formalist boundaries.”
