Hey performers! There’s a lot of advice out there (including mine) about what you should do at auditions. But do you know the one thing you should stop doing?
Stop trying so hard!
While putting in effort is essential, what directors don’t want to see is someone focusing so hard on being ‘perfect’ that they forget to do the most important thing: have fun!
A casting teams’ job is not to find who is the ‘most talented’ (which is something I firmly believe doesn’t exist, anyway, because talent is not a linear scale!). Instead, a casting teams’ job is to decide who they want to put in front of an audience. And I promise you that the person an audience will enjoy watching is the person who enjoys being up on that stage. Not because they’re forcing a smile. Not because they’ve been told to look happy. But because they genuinely love doing what they do!
In the audition room, seeing that joy is way more important than doing any dance, song or acting side “perfectly” so relax, breathe, and please remember to have fun!
Keep shining,
Lauren ✨
