We rehearse in the Wynnum Room of Brisbane City Hall (Entry via Adelaide Street) every Wednesday from 5:30pm to 6:45pm.

Superstars! So so so many superstars going for reconciliation.

Whatever you do don’t skip ahead because there are some great choirs in this one. We’re just loving the team from Goodstart Early Learning. But be sure to have your eyes on the screen at around two and a half minutes into this cracker for some With One Voice action.

And our tip of the hat to all the awesome volunteers wouldn’t be complete without these superstars.

It can be scary just to jump into a volunteer role. After all we’ve seen how our current line up of champions do so much more than just ‘the job’.

So we put a call out for ‘understudies’. People who were willing to shadow one of our volunteers and these superstars were quick as a flash to put their hands up.

And I’m the volunteer behind With One Voice Brisbane’s social pages. And when I say behind, I of course mean in front. As anyone who even loosely follows this page knows that I’m not camera shy. ❤️🎥📸😂

So It’s National Volunteers Week!

Well it was - officially it ended yesterday but sometimes life n stuff gets in the way and you just have to keep on showing up. It seems fitting that my volunteer profile is the one that’s delivered late.

There is a beautiful serendipity in that. It perfectly captures what volunteering for WOVB has been for me over the last few difficult years: a community that has held me up precisely when I have felt like I’m falling behind.

Anyone who sings in a choir knows the magic it brings. From that very first week when I finally walked into a rehearsal, I’ve been the one winning. My mental health is better than I ever thought was possible, I have a community where I genuinely feel I belong, and on top of all that, I get to sing!

So, I’ll keep on volunteering in my perfectly imperfect way. Hoping that I can in some way give back even a fraction of what I receive every single week.

Deb, no one is really sure what Deb does. . .

Because she just does so much for us!!

Deb is our volunteer coordinator and here’s just the highlights of what she does. Deb writes our weekly email newsletter, she organises social events, has a cake there for us to celebrate member birthdays, she coordinates transport, and takes care of all that behind-the-scenes admin, while also being a warm and welcoming presence at every rehearsal.

And as a bonus, if you’ve got a joke, you’ll ALWAYS get a laugh out of our Deb.

It’s National Volunteers Week!

Let’s celebrate our wonderful volunteers and all that they do for WOVB.

Geoff is our money guy! Well it’s probably more accurate to say Geoff is our money guy 3.0.

He keeps his eye on the bank balance, absolutely he does and at each and every volunteers meeting Geoff gives a more than comprehensive overview of all things money. But that’s not all Geoff does - he fills in for Mick and lends his hand to the projector.

He also - & I think Geoff would say this is the important one - at state of origin time he is the choir’s number 1 supporter of all things maroon. We’re not sure if Geoff can even see other colours really.

Geoff we are hugely grateful for all that you do so as a special thank you we say “Gooooooo QUEENSLAND”

With only 3 x 15 minute rehearsals we really had to go ‘All In’ for Reconciliation Australia’s project to get this one done. But over the last 12 months with Sunny Grace Music at the helm we were up for it. We had to be, because as Sunny said, we have a privilege that many do not have, we have a voice and we should use it.

National Reconciliation Week runs from 27 May to 3 June every year.

It’s National Volunteers Week!

Let’s celebrate our wonderful volunteers and all that they do for WOVB.

Next up is Claire! Softly spoken, kind & welcoming Claire.

Claire is there to welcome us all as we arrive each week. She says hello and then checks our names on the list. She’s a bit like Santa really.

🎼🎵🎶 She’s making a list and checking it twice. She’s going to tell Debs who’s come to choir each week. 🎼🎵🎶 Yeah ok . . . we know . . . It needs some work . . . 🫢🙄

We’re so very grateful for all that Claire does because of course it’s so much more than that. We’re very proud to call ourselves an inclusive choir and having Claire right there to welcome people new and old each week ensures inclusion gets off to the best possible start.

It’s National Volunteers Week!

Let’s celebrate our wonderful volunteers and all that they do for WOVB.

You may not recognise him but this is Mick (the man, Mick the legend). You can find Mick sitting up the back with his laptop and his projector ensuring we all have no hassle access to the song lyrics.

Some say Mick has been around for ever (dinosaurs were mentioned a few times but we understand that to be a fictitious story). We say he is one of the very few members of the OG. And we are so very grateful for everything Mick does to keep WOVB singing.
