Over the past semester, our students have been challenged to think beyond being performers and begin developing themselves as creators, producers, and working artists.
Our Cert III and Industry students have collaborated to create an original ensemble cabaret from the ground up, contributing ideas, concepts, material, staging, and artistic direction to bring a shared vision to life.
Our Cert IV students have spent months developing deeply personal solo cabarets. These works are dark, emotional, thought-provoking, and courageous. They explore themes that matter to the artists creating them and showcase not only their performance skills, but their ability to conceive, develop, and realise original work.
Yes, these performances form part of their assessment.
But at Valmy Academy, assessment is never the end goal.
We are preparing young artists for a career in the creative industries. We are teaching them how to generate ideas, create opportunities, develop projects, tell stories, collaborate with others, and make work that has value beyond the classroom.
Tomorrow night, our students won’t just be performing.
They’ll be presenting original work they have created themselves.
And that is something worth celebrating.
A special thank you to Calum Johnstone for guiding our Cert III students, and to Ceitlin Tihore for her vocal coaching and support throughout the process. We’re also incredibly grateful to our Vocational Manager, Grant Couchman, for his mentorship of the Cert IV students. And thank you to Pip Theatre for hosting us, and to ATOD, our RTO, for their ongoing support.
We cannot wait to share their work with an audience. ✨
