Jason from Bribie’s son has duffered a significant injury
Matt was a great helper at most of the record fairs that Jason did and a lot of people would know Matt.

🧡🖤 Support for Matt Broomham 🖤🧡

Hi everyone,
Brendon Hunt here—President of Wallaby RLFC.

I need to share some unfortunate news. On Sunday, 20th July, during our Reserve Grade match, Matt Broomham suffered a serious neck injury in a dangerous tackle. He was taken by ambulance to Rockhampton Hospital and later flown to Brisbane, where he is currently receiving specialist care.

Matt has a fractured neck and faces a long road to recovery, including rehab and ongoing medical appointments. Sadly, this also means he’ll be unable to work for the coming months.

We’ve set up a GoFundMe to help ease the financial burden on Matt and his family during this time. Every donation—big or small—will go toward medical expenses, travel, accommodation, and living costs while Matt focuses on healing.

Our thoughts are with Matt and his family during this incredibly tough time. We’re all behind you, mate. 💪

We’d also like to give a massive shoutout to our incredible Sports Trainers, especially Gary Churchward, who supported Matt’s neck for 25–30 minutes before the ambulance arrived. His calm, professional response and strict adherence to protocol very likely prevented a lifelong disability. This is a powerful reminder of the importance of proper training and sticking to what you know in high-pressure situations. 🙌

Let’s rally behind Matt and show him the strength of the Wallaby RLFC community. 🧡🖤

The Zoo opened in 1992, and 1993 I attended for the first time not long after turning 18. I’m not sure which gig but the cabaret license became a thing I remembered and enjoyed from that moment. A live venue that provides you with a meal for the ticket price! Yes please. I moved to the valley area in 1994 and started skating down not long after to assist with stage and anything at any gig as I’d previously been in a band and done stage and sound and lights for a year with a band doing the circuit and knew a thing or two... not long after I’d rigged the PA for The Cramps at the Roxy and got roped into doing merch. This opened a lot more doors. I found myself anywhere and everywhere there was a gig within 200km of home. But The Valval was my place to sleep and The Zoo was my place to eat….

I have many fond memories (hundreds) at this fine establishment that helped a lot of people cut their teeth.

Most memorable highlights being;
•The floor collapsing during Spiderbait maybe in 1994.
•Tortoise in 1998 maybe was the best band I saw there.
•1995 I played on stage an original song with Fiona Horne from Def FX. We wrote the song together for a book launch while I was on my first tour.
•2020 bushfire benefit with Regurgitator and a bunch more but Jade from Dicklord went next level and her performance was through the roof. As in up in the rafters.
•Any of Mclusky/Future of the left as it was always the first week of January and always bloody hot.
•…Trail of Dead destroying it and a Gibson.
•December 2023 I got to DJ before and after a soul legend, Lee Fields.

Thank you to all and everyone who ever worked there and to those that came along to shows and supported live music. And thanks to the people who’ve owned it over time and believed in creating a space for us to all grow.

You will be missed.

If you have a minute, please vote for forestwood park in this survey. Arlo has been building jumps here for over a year and the council are willing to help.

Council is investigating a suitable location for a pump track in Buderim and is seeking input from the community on a potential location for the facility.

Once again, a huge thanks to everybody who took part in the event. It was very humbling hearing the positive feedback.
We are putting these events on not only for the record collecting community but also for the local community.

The wheels are already in motion for the next record fairs that we will be organising. Stay tuned for the November one in a venue TBC. Then we are in discussions to host another event back at BROUHAHA in the start of next year.

We are also planning a vinyl event back in Maroochydore some time in the silly season.

We hold these events on Gubbi Gubbi land.
We pay respect to our Elders past, present and emerging.
We recognise that sovereignty over this land was never ceded.
We acknowledge our gratitude that we share this land together with all Australians.

In case you haven’t seen the event advertised...Sunday. Do it.
