#123 - Jaguar: THE ART OF BROKEN PIECES

A little late, but I finally found the energy to do my annual Jaguar x Spectator piece and decided to celebrate the milestone of my Sydney Opera House show last year “The Art of Broken Pieces”

I’ve been dark on social media for a while because as most of you know, in 2019, two music producers took my body without my consent. For 5 years, I advocated in the media, music industry and government for safety in our workplaces. At the same time, I had to fight for my own justice and protection through countless court hearings and proceedings. Towards the end of 2023, the criminal court trial of this case ended in a mistrial after a merciless cross examination and was relisted later this year to start all over again.

The burnout from all of this trauma while trying to hold onto my career caught up with me. I was broken, fatigued and lost my purpose. I didn’t know how to be an artist in a society so stained with systemic abuse as well as meet expectations to be both a perfect victim and a tireless advocate.

On February 23rd, I’m releasing my intimate EP ‘victim impact statement’ under my music project to return my voice and own my body. To break out of the silence and take back my power. To grieve and repair. I am slowly finding the courage to create again. It would mean so much if you could support my journey back into my artistry.

#122 - Creative Mornings: Treasure

Such an honour to be the illustrator for global theme of July ‘Treasure’ presented by 💛 Your treasure may be a ring that has been passed down to you from your ancestors. A hidden spring of water in a parched land. The budding, implicit trust of a new friend. The ruins of a people from a faraway time and place.

Our instinct is to clutch them tightly. We fear their loss, yet in this fear, we lose our ability to cherish them. We must soften our grip and magnify our time spent in their presence, precisely because nothing will stay with us. Eventually, even Crown Jewels will pass into dust.

What happens when we expand what we treasure beyond the rare, the beautiful, and the precious to the ordinary and the unnoticed? What treasures can only you discern?
Thank you

#121 - Pablo: Dog Tags of Two Love Birds

Congratulations to Elissa and Alec who got hitched last week! This piece was commissioned by father-in-law/father of the newlyweds, Nigel, who is a long time friend of mine. He gave me a very simple brief - “They love their dog so much, they like the colour blue and their personal tastes are on the quirky side.” So I drew this portrait, to celebrate a couple falling head over heels for each other, but mostly, head over heels for their dog Pablo. Huge thank you to Nigel for trusting me with this piece and bringing my art into a special moment for two love birds. May you both have a happy and long life together!

#120: Queen Elizabeth II - Final Farewell

Her passing is a sad day as well as a triggering reminder for people in many different ways, but today I drew this to celebrate her life as a woman, to remember this moment in history and to send her off with her favourite corgi companions. 🐕

#118 - Kooka: Yellow Trumpets of Latrobe

The same week I was scheduled to paint the two Kooka! sculptures, was also the same week I lost both my family dingo dog and my grandma who lived in Taiwan. It was an extremely hard week for my mother and I but I felt so lucky to be able to escape my
week into a warehouse, with my noise-cancelling headphones and tune out the world as I painted and processed my grief. Each Kooka! is dedicated to the beautiful lives I lost
that week. Beside each beak I have signed ‘Simba’ and ‘外婆’ meaning grandma in
Mandarin. They were both as bright and beautiful as the yellow trumpets of Paddington
and I feel honoured that I had the timely opportunity to dedicate the two Kooka!
sculptures to two incredible lives that has influenced me as a person and as an artist.

View these two sculptures along the Kooka! Trail on the corner of Latrobe Terrace & Kennedy Terrace in Paddington, Brisbane.

#115 - Arcade Player: Nostalgia

Had the honour of creating the new avatar for who love everything vintage gaming and reimagining today’s hits as themes to 16-bit console games. Haha 😂

This was a fun one for me as I got to weave in all my favourite throwbacks to create a whole new character. ⚡️

#114 - Delta: COVID-19 in 2021 🦠
A little bit of a different one but a whole lotta fun. I recently got commissioned to draw onto a card to fit inside a collectible case. I had never done anything so small, and the brief was wide open. I figured if it was a collectible, then I should preserve a 2021 memory for everyone so I did a Spectator Jonze version of what the Delta COVID-19 virus 🦠 would look like to me so that it can be a little less scary. 😂💚

Thank you Brenton in Townsville for this cheeky commission.

#111 - Louboutin: AW20 Cube Collection

Last year, for Louboutin’s AW20 Cube Collection, I was commissioned by to create 2 x Spectator Jonze artworks as well as create a fashion film (with music by myself) and a photoshoot as 💕 Christian Louboutin is the first brand to completely trust me as an artist in every facet – music, art, film and fashion and what a dream come true.

This collaboration with Louboutin was featured in VOGUE Australia, 10Magazine, GRAZIA and more.

“All in the name of Louboutin. Australian artist and storyteller, Deena Lynch has collaborated with Christian Louboutin to create a film in celebration of their AW20 collection. Deena created her own artworks interpretative of the Loubi Cube collection, learning French simply for the purpose of making the film she stars in. A great reason, we think. The film also features her own original music. We love it, we love her and oh how we love Christian Louboutin's rubiks-cube-esque Loubi Cube collection for this season.”
