Fractio Modi

Fractio Modi is recording our first album! The album features music from 12th-14th c. Spain, focusing on pieces sung by and for pilgrims on the fabled Camino de Santiago, and has at its heart the Catalan Llibre Vermell de Montserrat.

Lately, one of the questions we continue to get after each performance is "Where can I buy your CD?". Most of the pieces we perform on our live programs are not recorded, or recordings are either difficult to access or of poor quality. Of course, our chief motivation is the fact that we love performing this music, and we want to share it with as many people as possible! We are thrilled to be able to share this music with you, and for you to be able to take us home (in CD format).

It's no secret that recordings are expensive to make. They take a lot of time and energy to perfect and produce. To make sure we get every detail right, we have launched a fundraising campaign via the Australian Cultural Fund, where you can help and support us as we bring this music to our audiences and to the world. Your donations will provide direct support for our recording technician costs, space rental, and artist fees, and they're all tax-deductible! You can find our project here:

We're delighted to be joined by cellist Dan Curro for The Language of Song on June 6!

Dan Curro is an accomplished cellist known for his eclectic musical interests and dynamic performance style. He began his cello studies with Helen Holt before continuing with Matthew Farrell, Roseanne Hunt, and later with Howard Penny. At the Queensland Conservatorium, Dan studied contemporary improvisation under John Rogers and Ken Edie, shaping his distinctive and versatile approach to music-making.

As a historically informed performer, Dan has a particular passion for 19th-century Western art music. He regularly plays baroque cello with ensembles including the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Badinerie Players, and Pinchgut Opera. Throughout his career, Dan has explored an abundance of musical styles, including baroque, classical, Latin, tango, jazz, hip hop, and contemporary music. Recently, his focus has been on performing new music with Black Square Quartet, collaborating with local composers such as Thomas Green and Robert Davidson. His work with the quartet reflects his commitment to innovation and his passion for expanding the boundaries of string quartet repertoire.

Kingdom of Heaven is in ten days, and we are thrilled to be joined by Nawres Al-Freh!

Nawres Al-Freh brings extensive experience to the world of music, specialising in classical and Arabic violin, Joza, and Kamancha. His musical journey began at the Baghdad Conservatorium and culminated in a degree from the Jordanian Conservatorium.

Passionate about both folk and classical music, Nawres focuses on Iraqi and Arabic traditions, particularly traditional maqams, ancient musical modes that reflect the rich heritage of his culture. He has performed at numerous festivals and ethnomusicology projects across Europe, the Middle East, and Australia. Throughout his career, Nawres has collaborated with renowned musicians globally and has worked alongside many of Australia’s leading world music artists.
