So grateful for this lovely shout-out from Trina Massey Councillor for the Gabba Ward. A formidable advocate of women's voices, we're honoured to have Trina attending our performance on Sunday.
Trina is absolutely right, there are still so many women's voices being silenced across our communities. We are acutely aware that we are a cast of white performers, performing on unceded, stolen lands, and that our voices do not represent all women's experiences.
We hope to use our platform to shine a spotlight on some of the struggles women from all walks of life experience as we try to make our way in a world where entrenched power structures continue to diminish our sense of worth.
The feminism that informs this show is a wholeheartedly inclusive one and we aim to honour the stories of the women who submit their journals to us for inspiration by treating all content in it with care, tenderness and sensitivity - as you'd expect of anyone you invite to read your diary.
Hey art-lovers! Brisbane Anywhere Festival kicks off this week, and there's heaps of exciting shows around the Gabba and the rest of the city.
For this Sunday, I've purchased tickets to Hysterical | Anywhere Festival , a one-night-only, improv theatre performance by Oh, Artemis - Theatre Collective. It looks at how labels can shape us in a world that has not been built by or for women. Women have been storytellers from the dawn of time - especially on this continent - and our stories deserve to be centred.
Historically, some of the women whose stories have been most marginalised include First Nations women, trans women, non-Anglo women, and q***r women – and while the arts and media are catching up on centring SOME women’s stories, there’s a whole lot more work to be done.
Getting down to local productions by women in your community is a great way to support this shift, so hopefully I’ll see you at The Paint Factory Yeronga this weekend 🎨🎭
