51 Ravens brings you a tough, poignant and innovative NEW musical! Expect a raucous, affecting night of ‘gig-theatre’ that will enlighten, amuse and move you in equal measure. There’s definitely no jazz hands and glitter here, as you drink in the sound of the on-stage band earning their keep in the Jameson’s Arms. Composer Jack Terroni’s soundtrack is not beholden to the sound of the 1950s and beguiles the audience with a contemporary mix of powerful soul, indie rock and pop songs. This eclectic soundscape sets the tone for the curious characters of ‘Soul’ and ‘Ego’ to play with the very fabric of time and what it means to be human, in the heart of an ordinary working-class London community. Can Punchy find his authentic self or will Ego lead him to a path of destruction? Research and Development:
In October 2017, composer Jack Terroni attended an Oxford, England retreat organised by his friend, mentor, and author Richard Barrett. A diverse range of professionals, from creatives to therapists, lawyers, and thought leaders, gathered from across the globe to discuss the Barrett Academy's Humanity Awareness Initiative to help envision a world where all people and all living beings can thrive and develop resources and networks to support societal evolution. Jack was halfway through completing an album of soulful songs he had written, and Richard, known for his innovative work in understanding Ego/Soul dynamics, suggested Jack's songs be used as a basis for a new musical…
Over the ensuing weeks, Jack fleshed out a narrative inspired by an anecdote from his Mother's post-WW2 childhood. Richard's non-fiction work 'What My Soul Told Me' was deployed as the basis for Jack's character development. In what perhaps Carl Jung would describe as a synchronistic occurrence, Jack realized he had songs from over a decade of composing that, ineffably, merged with precise touchpoints in the story. The development stage of the production was now thoroughly underway. In 2019, in an opportune meeting with Dee Anderson of The Thunderbirds family, Jack was subsequently awarded 'Best New Music Video' at 'The Sylvia Anderson Awards' at Pinewood Studios and introduced to Director, Amanda Noar. Jack presented the project to Amanda, who instinctively knew the right playwright to bring the 'work script' to life. That man was Kevin McMahon (Kenneth Branagh Writing Award winner). Thus began Kevin's adaptation of the 'work script' in his inimitable fashion, bringing beauty, poignancy, and humour to the dialogue. A mutual connection between Amanda and Kevin saw another pillar added to the production, with consultancy provided by Joan Lane, ('The King's Speech)
