Today I made time to take myself on a solo road trip to the Gold Coast hinterland, and it made me reflect on a couple of things:

1. The simple joy of being in your own company
2. The importance of switching off from the digital world to experience the real one uninterrupted
3. The beauty of exploring new places in your own city

Sometimes I like to ponder the advice my 60 year-old self would give to Present Day Me about the often trivial stresses of a 20-something year old trying to navigate the world with little life experience.

These moments feed me gratitude that is too often neglected. Gratitude for my ageing family whose stories I’m still fortunate enough to hear, gratitude for my body that won’t be in this condition forever, and gratitude for my beautiful country and the safety it affords me, in a world where safety feels a bit more impermanent than it did a decade ago.

What do you think your older self would say to you right now?
