The Nurses at Vung Tau

The Nurses at Vung Tau A new chamber opera based on the experiences of Australian Army Nurses stationed at the Vung Tau base during the Vietnam War.

Libretto and Concept - Elizabeth Lewis
Composer Brenton Broadstock AM
Director - Elizabeth Lewis
Producer - Antipodean Arts "The Nurses at Vung Tau" originally began as a set of poems intended as a song cycle for solo soprano and piano. Librettist Elizabeth Lewis, had spend months researching and interviewing Nursing and Army personnel from the hospital base at Vung Tau before completing the 10 po

ems which would make up the cycle. After being put in touch with renowned composer Brenton Broadstock AM, upon his urging, it was decided that there was the makings of a full chamber opera with the poems. Elizabeth set back to work expanding on the concept, eventually producing the libretto for the opera we have today. With beautiful orchestration for an intimate ensemble of 6 instruments and a cast of 6 singers, this work is not to be missed. We are so proud to be able to tell these stories and shed some light on this group of amazing and inspirational women would went above and beyond the call of duty.

SOME SHOWS YOU WISH WOULD LAST FOREVER ...

Well folks, rehearsals have come to an end. At tonight's dress rehearsal, we pulled together the final touches and polished all the corners.

All that's left is to put on the show! 🎻🎶

I'm pretty sad that it's all happened so fast. I've really enjoyed getting to know Brenton Broadstock's incredible score, and hearing the fascinating stories of the nurses at Vung Tau, delivered through Elizabeth Lewis' thought-provoking libretto.
