to Welcome Week, and our amazing orientation sessions with our new Drama cohort for 2026.
Who can believe it's Week 3 already?! Where did the time go!
It's been such a delight to begin the new year with these passionate, excited theatre makers (and a thanks to Vena Cava Productions for dropping in to say hi!)

Last week, the Matilda Awards celebrated outstanding achievement in Queensland theatre, and we were so thrilled to see the work of so many QUT (Queensland University of Technology) Drama students, graduates and staff recognised or contributing to almost every category! Congratulations to all nominees and winners, especially our amazing graduates - and a special shout-out to QUT alum co-host Louise Brehmer!

Some highlights from the evening! Best Direction, where every single nominee in this category is connected to QUT Drama in some way, including **winner!** Daniel Evans (Graduate), Wesley Enoch (graduate and QUT Staff member), Caroline Dunphy (Graduate), Sharon Hogan (former QUT staff), and Indiah Morris (Graduate). These nominees represent every generation of QUT theatre artists since our inception as a performing arts training institution in the 1980s!

QUT students and alumni from Drama as well as Technical Production and Acting were also recognised for their amazing work in 'Best Independent Production' award for 'Blushing' by Zen Zen Zo - congrats everyone!
1. Directed by BFA Drama Graduate Indiah Morris
2. Lighting design by BFA Technical Production graduate Briana Clark,
3. Costume realisers Maxi Mossman (Drama graduate) and Ebony Webb (Current BCA Acting student)
4. With performers including Gina Tay Limpus, Maisie Crosdale (Drama graduates) and Anabella Gregory (current Drama student)

Our School of Creative Arts also continued to recognise backstage excellence by sponsoring the 2025 Behind the Scenes Award. This year’s award recognised Eben Love, a proud Ngarrindjeri man and regional Queensland–based lighting designer, technician, production manager and venue professional whose work during 2025 made a significant contribution to the excellence, ambition and technical integrity of our state’s performing arts sector!

And there's so much more amazing work that goes into every live performance that happens in Queensland, every day, including and on top of those celebrated at the Matildas. Congratulations to all of our students, graduates and staff who continue to make art in QLD!

What really makes a relationship 'official'? Is it the first kiss? The first "I love you"? Or the first time you... fart in front of them?
In the comforting mess of Atlas' room, we follow the blossoming relationship between Julia and Atlas. After the devastating diagnosis of a lifelong illness, they navigate the complexities of the shifting dynamics from a new and exciting partnership to a terrifying caregiver and patient relationship. Fart in Front of me is an exploration into the private displays of affection (PDA) that occur in our unique partnerships, how we define a ‘true’ relationship and how human it is to love and be loved. This play gives us a glimpse into understanding how painful and fulfilling love can be. Truly, only love can hurt like this.
