Another image from my self-imposed excursion in search of inspiration, this was on (I think) my
second to last day in the UK, and for me it perfectly sums up my photography style at the
moment. I’ve been enjoying capturing images detailing human elements in a natural
environment, and this is one of my most recent favourites.

More recently, I’ve taken inspiration from a lot of landscape and travel photographers, and not
being able to travel for two years over the pandemic really messed with my head. I’m used to
traveling 3 or four times a year, so to go from that to nothing for two years really killed my
inspiration and motivation to make art. This trip was me forcing myself out of my comfort zone,
and kick starting inspiration by being in new environments and meeting new people. It’s
something I knew I needed for a long time, and some of my favourite images I’ve taken have
come from this trip.

This image was taken on a road trip with a buddy of mine, after I asked him to pull over for a
completely different shot. Perhaps it’s the spontaneity of it, but I’ve always liked this shot. It’s not
perfect, but it’s a moment and a memory captured in time, and that’s what photography is all
about for me.

Photograph your mentors.
With 11 years behind me in the hospitality industry, it’s safe to say I’ve had a few mentors over
the years. Brad Cuff is probably one of the most influential ones, and has taught me a lot about
the industry and the love/hate relationship I have with it. When I started taking photography a
little more seriously, he was one of the first to reach out and support me in this endeavor, and
although I don’t shoot as much portraiture or head shots anymore, this is still one of my
favourite images because of what it means to me.
