When you’re so busy you turn up on the wrong day 😂😂
Oh dear, at least and her beginner class thought it was funny and agreed I should stay and paint instead of going home and doing jobs 🙌🙌🙌🤩

Thanks studio for always having my back

Have a great day friends, and hope you didn’t also confuse days, unless of course it works out better for you 😘

I’ve started a study piece before I attempt a bigger one. My focus is on layering, and glazing to create a gorgeous, calming scene of rocks in shallow waters onto a misty pool.
I’ve also been working hard at another big piece (under wraps for now) hence my silence here lately.
I took another leap forward yesterday after studio with Marcel at He seems to have this ability to get me out of my head and trust myself to create with intuition. This is where that magic ‘flow’ happens and you become totally immersed in the painting, to the point where the outside world no longer exists.
Hope you all get into the flow today friends!

I can officially say that something has ‘clicked’ for me with this beautiful medium I’ve been learning at
The community and tutors are so welcoming and inclusive. Beginners are welcomed wholeheartedly and really looked after.
I’ve had this image calling to me for years and now I finally feel I have the medium and the skills to take it on. Those autumn colours are just divine!!

Another week, another studio tutorial and another aha moment. This week, I finally clicked on a clear process of the way I like to paint. Thank you again Marcel for helping me move that little bit further forward in my oil painting journey. I think I may be obsessed 😆

Following on from my last post, I gave myself a wee challenge. To paint this piece without thinking!!! I just mixed colours and got into the feeling of it and it was liberating 💃
I may do a second layer just to play with contrast, add some detail and adjust colour, but it’s pretty much done and I can’t wait to do more!!
Description: 8 x 10” oil painting on canvas of the Calais Standing Stones located on the Isle of Lewis in Scotland. These stones predate Stonehenge, pretty cool!

Thank you and (tutor) for getting me past some roadblocks in this piece!
Two moments of impact for me this session:
1. Get out of my left brain! I forget how Marcel worded it to me, something like ‘stop overthinking it and just paint intuitively’. I know this intellectually but it really hit home for me this time!
2. Don’t be afraid of losing the light! In watercolour you need to maintain light and leave white as no white paint is used. Process is light to dark. In oils, it’s totally opposite! My brain is totally flip flopping from knowing this, to my hand doing something else 🙈 something to work on!

Felt like doing a spontaneous oil painting of this gorgeous fairy wren. I will add another layer but am happy with the progress so far. Though a bit heavy on the white for the lichen too soon and made a bit of a mess! Lucky oils can cover that in the next layer 😅🙌

I’d like to thank Mansour from for allowing me to use his gorgeous pic! I’ve been meaning to paint this for so, so long!! It’s such a gorgeous capture 🥰

I’ve been playing around with setting up some still life photos of my own for reference for my painting.
What do you think friends? Would you like to see any of these painted or do you prefer landscapes or something else?!

Thought I’d see how much I’ve improved over the last couple of months of first learning oils. What do you think?!

Swipe to see my very first oil painting. Both allá prima (one layer), though I plan to bring up the vibrancy and detail in a second layer for this one now.

Absolutely loving my adventure with oil painting! The tutors at Bienarte are all so generous and really helping me to accelerate my progress in the medium.
I’m obsessed with magnolias and couldn’t wait to get some warm greys onto the foreground flower, I think it brings it to life 🥰
What would you like to see me paint next?! If you were my customer, what would you like to see on your walls?

Work in progress! Revisiting this gorgeous Crimson Rosella to see how much my watercolours have improved over the last 2 years. It was certainly a lot easier and quicker to get to this stage. Only one layer at present but so happy with the vibrancy of the red wash!

I have an entire series of Australian birds in watercolour to come!

What are your favourite Australian birds? I’d love to know so I can include it in my list 😁😁

Very first oil painting done in class last week. The classes are so well structured and slow enough to really understand the medium and techniques. Anyone can learn this, so if you’ve ever had an inkling to try a new creative adventure I can highly recommend!!
Swipe to see some progression photos 🙌
So far, in my own practice at home I have been doing my paintings allá prima which means all in one layer. Can’t wait to learn more techniques in the coming weeks!! Will be interesting to see how my paintings progress the more I learn 😁😁
