Update: Bhutan and Jordan establish diplomatic ties

The Kingdom of Bhutan and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan established diplomatic relations on August 3, 2026, with the signing of a Joint Communiquรฉ in New York.

The agreement was signed by Bhutan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Tenzin R. Wangchuk, and Jordan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Walid Khalid Obeidat.

The two sides described the move as an important milestone that reflects their shared commitment to strengthening friendship, cooperation, and mutual understanding. They also reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral relations and expanding cooperation at the United Nations and other multilateral forums.

With Jordan, Bhutan now maintains diplomatic relations with 62 countries and the European Union.
