URGENT APPEAL FOR HELP!
A Cry for Help for Our Sister, Sonam Zam.

Miss Sonam Zam, 21, years old, a young and brave daughter hailing from Tsachuphu under Toewang Gewog in Punakha Dzongkhag, has always carried the weight of her family on her shoulders. Born into a humble farming family, raised by divorced parents who struggle every day just to survive, she never gave up on life.

She had dreams. Beautiful dreams of higher education, of a better future. However, the fate had other plans.

Unable to continue her studies due to financial hardship, she chose to serve our country instead. With pride and determination, upon completing her Class 12 from Tashidingkha Central School, Punakha in 2023, she joined the Royal Bhutan Police in 2025. She trained tirelessly at Jigmeling Police Training Center from April 16 to 31 Dec 2025 dedicating herself to the service of TSA-Wa-Sum, with nothing but hope in her heart.

And just when her journey had begun… tragedy struck.

After only two months of service, Miss Sonam began to feel unwell. What seemed like a small discomfort turned into her worst nightmare.

She has been diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia — a life-threatening condition that now demands an urgent stem cell transplant at Tata Medical Center, Kolkata under care of Dr. Saswata Saha (Consultant, Department of Clinical Haematology and Cellular Therapies).

The cost of her treatment is a staggering Nu. 3 Million (30 Lakhs) — an amount her struggling family could never dream of arranging.

She is tirelessly fighting to wear her Uniform Again to serve our beloved King, Country, and the People (us, people of Bhutan). And she cannot do this alone.

I am sincerely begging on her and her humble parent’s behalf. No amount is too small. Even the smallest contribution can bring her one step closer to life-saving treatment.

Let us not allow this young, brave soul to fade away when we have the power to save her.

Let us give her a second chance at life.

'When you visit a new country, the last thing that will impress you is what happens at the airport departure lounge minutes before you board a flight. By then you have made up your mind about the country and the things you hated and loved. And yet something happened at the Paro International Airport that left me a fan of all-things-Bhutan.

All they did was ask me a question. In that question lies the story of Bhutan government’s seminal achievement, cultural confidence and humility.
..In their survey with over a dozen questions, the one that blew my mind was this: Did you find the public toilets in Bhutan clean?

You really need to be a confident country and society to ask this to a tourist who’s departing. India can’t even imagine asking such a question, that too to a foreign tourist, let alone its own residents. We already know what the answer would be.'

Just a few months after the blacktop was completed, the road has already lost its top layer, washed away by a single night of rain. The question is: should we blame the rain, or the quality of the work?

Rain is natural and expected. Roads are built to withstand it. If a newly completed road cannot survive one night of rainfall, serious questions need to be asked about the construction standards, supervision, and accountability.
